Georgia’s Glynn County Police Department released body camera footage that shows moments after 25-year-old Ahmaud Arbery was shot and killed in February.
On February 23, 2020, Ahmaud Marquez Arbery, 25-year-old man, was pursued and fatally shot while fleeing from a house under construction he had just burglarised near Brunswick in Glynn County, Georgia. Arbery had been pursued by three residents—Travis McMichael and his father Gregory, who were driving a pickup truck trying to stop the burglar, Arbery to talk to him and wait for the police to arrive. The third resident is William “Roddie” Bryan, who followed Arbery in a second vehicle who record the video of the shooting with his phone.

On 7/12/2019, Ahmaud Arbery’s father Marcus called 911 reporting a suspicious black man around his house.
Just before Ahmaud Arbery was shot by Gregory McMichael and Travis McMichael an unidentified caller made a report to 911 about a black male in a white t-shirt inside a house under construction. Two other videos recently released appears to show Arbery inside a house under construction.
On 7/12/2019, Ahmaud Arbery’s father Marcus called 911 reporting a suspicious black man around his house.
On 10/25/2019, homeowner Larry English called police about a black man trespassing at his home being built at 220 Satilla Shores in Brunswick, Georgia. This was about 4 months before the fatal shooting of Ahmaud Arbery on 2/23/2020. He called police on 5 occasions about people being in the house before the shooting.
On 11/17/2019, homeowner Larry English 2nd called police about a white man and woman trespassing at his home being built at 220 Satilla Shores in Brunswick, Georgia.
On 11/18/2019, homeowner Larry English called police about a black man trespassing at his home being built at 220 Satilla Shores in Brunswick, Georgia.
On 2/11/2020, Travis McMichael called police about a black man trespassing at 220 Satilla Shores. This was 12 days before the fatal shooting of Ahmaud Arbery.
video appears to show what prosecutors called “video of Arbery burglarizing a home immediately preceding the chase and confrontation.”

Attorneys for the McMichaels argue they were justified to pursue Arbery because they suspected he was a burglar and that Travis McMichael acted in self-defense.

Now, usually I’m all for justification where there is due, but this was an unarmed guy who was clearly trynna get away until last minute defending his life against the barrel of a gun.
The moment you brandish or pull a weapon, from what I know of self defense, that’s a threat. Not saying it was SMART to fight somebody with a gun, but when you approach somebody with a gun that in itself is a threat.
The two gunmen weren’t in imminent danger, this was burglary at most and they took it upon themselves to execute the man. Isn’t that murder?
The truth will come out in the trial. There is a pending criminal case for homicide.

In a situation like this, never take the law into your own hands. Let Law Enforcement handle it. Yes, the suspect had been trespassing and possibly stealing. But THEY WENT AFTER an unarmed man with a shotgun and a pistol. Another senseless loss of life.

As a 9 year jogger, in the state of GA I can tell you that there’s 3 things I haven’t done.
1-Ran off the road and into a open house under construction I had zero relationship to the owner
2-Went out jogging in the clothes he had on. The baggy pockets would slow my run down.
3-I generally don’t chase after 2 guys in a truck and one has a shotgun.
I’m not saying these 2 were right, but the one that got shot wasn’t pearly white and clean like I was lead to believe by the news media. This kid was a thief, or going to be one. Why on earth would anyone charge after someone with a rifle is beyond me. All he had to do was turn and run right past them to the cops. Again, these 2 had zero reason to be armed, but he went after his shotgun. You reach for a shotgun you’re going to get the business end of if 10/10 times.

Even if he was there for nefarious purposes we as citizens are not judge, jury and executioner.

Ahmad Aubery put himself in this position. By repeatedly going into that house knowing it was trespassing with reckless disregard for the law. The man had a history of anger issues and confrontation would’ve been inevitable. We live in a time of no accountability, and intimidation backed up by mendacity.

I'm not sure why some people just so badly wanted to believe that he was shot for being black and jogging. They really wanted to believe that the guy who shot him was a white supremacist who decided to to hunt down and kill a black person for being black.
I think it comes down to wanting validation. It's not about "wanting the world to be a better place" anymore. It's about hoping for the worst, and wanting to see the worst for validation. You'd think that the people who called this a hate crime would be relieved that it wasn't that, but instead they feel dissapointed.
