A high-speed chase in Canadian County ended in a crash near the Cimarron Road exit. It started as a routine traffic stop on I-40 when authorities said Andrew Sawyers of Florida was traveling at a high rate of speed through a construction zone.

“When our agent approached the driver’s window, he noticed two empty beer bottles in the passenger’s seat,” said Mark Woodward, spokesman for the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics.

When the driver was asked to step out of the vehicle, the OBN agent noticed him putting something in his jacket pocket.

“He asked the driver what it was and the driver reached into his jacket pocket and with two fingers he pulled out a weapon, a hand gun, and dropped it to his feet and immediately jumped into his car and took off,” Woodward said.

Officials said the driver headed eastbound on I-40 and that he was traveling more than 100 miles an hour for 25 miles.

The chase ended when the driver crashed into some tr
ees after exiting at Cimarron Road.

Sawyers was taken to a hospital for his injuries.

In addition to the handgun in his jacket, agents also found two rifles.

Sawyers faces charges including eluding a police officer as well as weapon charges.

  1. I had no idea a Ford Focus could go that fast for so long. I assume the pursuit vehicle was an Explorer. What was the cruiser at the end that went zooming by? Charger maybe?

  2. A lot of cops would have justifiedly shot him. This cop didnt. The man is alive today because of this cop. And they say the cops are bad? This cop was amazing.

  3. This guy is the definition of stupid. Either that or he expected the cop to find something wrong, like a warrant, and take him to jail..

  4. je suis toujours impressionné par la rapidité a laquelle tout un tas de voiture de police arrivent a rejoindre….c'est plein de policier dans ce pays, c'est fou !

  7. He didn't "try to ram" anything or anyone, at least the first time it was called out!
I just like to be fair, I'm not defending the guys actions.

  8. Какой респект американским полицейским, слажено четко и и взаимодействия один за всех и все за одного и они офицеры американской полиции, а русских ,пьяные взятрчники и бсндиты это менты

  9. Pull a gun on a policeman for any reason is a death wish. This was a older fella with common sense I would of thought. Turns out in today’s world be prepared for whatever is the best attitude

  10. I wonder at you hours long chases. Russian police would have immediately blocked all roads. (Sometimes using private cars, with driver and passengers inside)

  11. Police officer can't use his gun at moment when he should and can't hit the guy's car either he needs to be trained and please can somebody tell the police officers do not threat to kill unless you are 100% sure you will do, because that can end up the opposite if you don't have the guts to do it !!
