McLean, Virginia — On July 7, 2022, At approximately 7:11 p.m. officers responded to a home in the 6900 block of Arbor Lane in McLean, after a family friend of 26-year-old Jasper Aaron Lynch, called with concerns for his safety. The family friend said Lynch was throwing objects inside the home and pacing.

A designated co-responder unit responded. This team included an officer assigned to Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) and a clinician from the Sharon Bulova Center for Community Health. Lynch left the residence prior to the team’s arrival at 7:26 p.m. The team checked the home and remained in the area for an additional period of time to attempt to locate him. Lynch was unable to be found. The co-responder unit then went to the McLean District Station to speak with Lynch’s family by phone.

At 8:34 p.m., a second call for service was placed by a family friend. This time, three crisis intervention trained officers arrived at the home and spoke to a family member on the scene. The officers found Lynch inside holding a bottle and and a large decorative wooden tribal mask. The officers attempted to de-escalate the situation with verbal commands inside the foyer of the home.

Officers ordered Lynch to drop the items. He refused, threw the tribal mask at an officer and began swinging the bottle in a striking motion. Two officers attempted to utilize their Electronic Control Weapons. Lynch ran towards officers, swinging the bottle. Police Officer First Class Edward George discharged his firearm, striking Lynch four times. Officers immediately rendered aid until fire and rescue personnel arrived. Lynch was pronounced deceased at the scene.

  3. Totally unjustified shooting. They could of just tackled the guy and hand cuffed him. Cops in America are trained to shoot first and ask questions later. That needs to change.

  29. That's a load of crap. They never had to shoot him. Killed someone because they were afraid of a bottle. More of a bunch of girls then Jasper wanted to be.

  31. So was there transformation medication being taken? I've heard a few stories and they always leave out that question when it comes to someone going through a transition. I'm generally curious;not making a final judgment.

  36. Why have this long ass conversation about how to help this guy out but not have the patience ..? Easily could have tackled him from behind after he charged through the door. The shots we're training instincts.. And that has always been the problem in these situations… They only train to kill these people at their weak points in life… Cops are so damn scared of some battle scars for the greater good. What happened to the sacrifice?

  38. 13 minute video… crazy guy gets shot. I know context helps alot but geez. could have cut time down buy 75% and still gotten the facts. Also, why bother redacting info on 911 call just to publish/broadcast it later in the lengthy video?!
