The Volusia Sheriff’s Office released a helicopter video footage of a police chase that occurred May 6-2021when a man stole two Cocoa Police Department vehicle in the same pursuit.
It all started when Cocoa police were called to check out a report of a suspicious person on I-95. During that investigation, the person, later identified as Xavier Javern Cummings, managed to get into a marked patrol car and took off.

Around 4:15 this afternoon, deputies were alerted to a stolen Cocoa Police Department vehicle entering Volusia County on I-95.

A pursuing police officer was able to force the stolen cruiser off the highway and into the woods, where it crashed and became stuck around the 252 mile marker.

However, as additional responding units approached, the suspect was able to jump out of the wrecked patrol car and into another Cocoa Police Department vehicle, again fleeing northbound on I-95.

After units along I-95 successfully deployed stop sticks, the suspect again ran off the highway and into a muddy median around the 258 mile marker, where Sheriff Mike Chitwood and Division Chief Brian Henderson approached the vehicle.

Additional units quickly converged behind them to take the suspect into custody. No injuries were reported.

The suspect’s ID is Xavier Javern Cummings 33 years old. (DOB 12/24/1987).

  18. You got to give it to this guy he stole two police quite entrepreneurial but In fairness who would have thought that a man who abandon the police pcar in the woods may need another one?

  19. Why was that second police cruiser smoking? Was it the engine being at that high RPM for a while? That thing had a trail of smoke coming out of it

  21. I’m sure it’s not in the budget for every department, but there’s no other reason not to prevent this. They could wear something on their duty belt, that automatically locks locks the doors, when they step so far from the vehicle. That would still require them to close the doors, but I understand why they always don’t have the time to secure the vehicle. Some of the K-9 units are equipped with rear doors that the officer can remotely pop open. That’s badass, probably not so much for the dogs newest chew toy.
