Oxnard, California — On April 7, 2023, around 6:00 p.m., residents in the 2000 block of East Bard Road called the Oxnard Police Department’s Emergency Communications Center to report that a person was brandishing and threatening residents with a knife. Oxnard Police Officers responded to the location to investigate. When officers arrived on scene, they located 18-year-old Christian Baltazar Torrez inside a green truck. The truck belonged to a resident, who had not given Torrez permission to enter his vehicle. The officers gave him several commands to exit the truck, and he did not readily comply. After approximately five minutes, Torrez exited the truck, and began walking towards the officers. The officers saw that Torrez was holding a knife in his left hand. He continued to walk in the direction of the officers as the officers ordered him to drop the knife.

Of the four police officers and patrol sergeant at the scene of this incident, three of the officers drew their handguns, one officer had a “less lethal” shotgun, and the patrol sergeant drew their Taser. As Torrez failed to comply with the direction of the officers, the sergeant deployed his taser. The Taser probes contacted Torrez, but had minimal effect; he was able to continue moving towards the officers. The officer with the less lethal shotgun fired one “bean bag” round, which caused Torrez to fall to the ground. He quickly got back on his feet, knife in hand, in close proximity to officers, when officer Sheffield fired four handgun rounds at Torrez. Torrez fell to the ground after being shot. The officers called for Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and provided life saving efforts, including CPR, until EMS personnel arrived on scene. An ambulance transported Torrez to the Ventura County Medical Center, and he was pronounced deceased at approximately 7:00 p.m.

  13. 💡The IDIOT with the beanbag shotgun acted like those beanbags were the only one's he'll ever be given for the duration of his career, for him to only shot it (1) one time per encounter!😖 And that last shot when the suspect was down with the blade out of his hand was sad!😖 But at the end of the day, we're all responsible for our own actions, and this poor guy chose to use drugs and that's a major part of his demise😔 But what would be truly heartbreaking is if someone else tricked him into using drugs because of his mental instability thus purposely making him a customer😭

  17. Funny the use of the word "salgate", this word doesn't exist in spanish, sounds like: "salgase" wich means "get out", but everybody is outside.
    The phrase of the cop, that barely know spanish, is "salgate el arma", and I suppose that he try to say "suelta el arma" (drop the gun)

  19. The officers failed on this one…5 officers with guns but the guy didn't attempt to attack them he was just reacting to tazer and beanbags…if he had a family they could of sue them for millions

  20. The translation was seriously efficient on that 91 call. As for the drug wasted knife wielder, he was given every chance to drop the knife. The zap should have been a reality check but clearly good decision making was not his forte.

  35. Tbh, I think they need to stop using those beanbags and start using the rubber slugs. Those slugs hurt one hell of a lot more than those beanbags do!! I tested both of them out on myself and I would much rather get hit by a beanbag than a rubber slug!! Those slugs REALLY F'N HURT!!!
