Charlotte, North Carolina — On Thursday, September 15, 2022, shortly after 5 p.m., officers were notified of a License Plate Reader hit for a stolen vehicle on LaSalle Street in the Metro Division. Officers conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle at Onyx Street and Dundeen Street. The driver, later identified as 18-year-old Shaheed Covington, fled from the vehicle on foot armed with a firearm in hand. The suspect ran through a backyard still carrying the firearm. Multiple officers perceived an imminent threat and discharged their service weapons.

The suspect was not struck, and there were no injuries to the officers or the suspect. The suspect surrendered to officers and was taken into custody. The firearm was recovered on scene. The CMPD Homicide Unit conducted the criminal investigation into this officer-involved shooting. The CMPD Internal Affairs Bureau conducted a separate but parallel investigation and determined the officers did not violate any CMPD policies. The Mecklenburg County District Attorney’s Office also reviewed the case and has not filed any charges against the officers involved.

  1. Dude turned into a ghost thinking he was dead little did he know turning into a ghost made them miss all shots. 🤣🤣

  2. That boy was looking around wondering how the hell they could still see him as a ghost after he heard all those shots.

  3. It waa like the scene in "PULP FICTION" when they talk asbout "Devine Intervention.." …all the shots missed……

  4. It's sickening that they wasted all thhat expensive ammo and missed, and it's more sickening that the perp will be back out on no time.

  5. Not wearing seatbelts. You'd THINK that the DING DING sound every minute or so would drive them crazy, but maybe it's comforting since it reminds them of mama's door bell going off every few minutes.

  6. At least eight shots, but zero hits. Not to worry too much — recidivism rates show the odds are high they will get another opportunity when the court system's revolving door spits him back out on the streets. After all, it's not like he will suddenly decide to reject the thug-culture that he seems so enamored with.
