Officer-Involved Shooting: Inquiry & Incident Footage (Part II)

This is the second video in a deep-dive series into multiple officer-involved shootings. Rather than start off with video of the incident itself, the first video opened with footage of the involved officer being interviewed by New Mexico’s Officer-involved Incident Task Force, offering a perspective rarely seen or heard by the public: that of the officer who fired their weapon.

This video opens with the last five minutes of the officer’s interview before the Task Force, and then shifts to one officer’s body-worn camera. The male subject, Charles Ray Campolla, 34, of the 1300 block of Lees Drive in Las Cruces, has since been charged with with one count of aggravated assault upon a peace officer. The charge is a third-degree felony. The officer has been cleared of wrongdoing with regard to the shooting.

As you heard in Part I, at about 3:30 am on Sunday, September 23, 2018 Las Cruces Police were dispatched to a report of a domestic disturbance at Campolla’s home that he shares with his girlfriend and her teenage daughter. The daughter had called 911 to report that Campolla was armed with a pistol and was threatening others. It was the tenth time that year that officers had been called to that home.

Three Las Cruces police officers arrived to find Campolla barefoot and outside the home. The officers gave multiple commands for Campolla to show his hands but he refused to do so. At some point, Campolla pointed a gun at one of the officers, who fired as Campolla ducked in front of the vehicle parked in the driveway.

Campolla was not struck, and spent the next hour-plus shouting in protest of having been shot at, repeating a number of times that he didn’t even have a weapon. Campolla would later retract that claim, after officers located his gun hidden – right where he had ducked down – resting atop the driver’s-side front tire of the car in the driveway.

  1. Cop should be written up for missing. And use the perps statement as proof that he shot and missed 4 TIMES.

  2. The guy throws a complete conniption even after being cuffed and with three officers right there. Gee, no wonder the daughter called the cops in the first place. He's lucky none of those shots fired hit him.

  3. The parasite is complaining about 4 gun shots… The parasite is lucky the Police Officers missed and didn’t emptied their magazines on the parasite.
    That’s about all. Thank you.

  4. The first thing he says proves he had a weapon “I didn’t shoot nuffin” ….he didn’t say he didn’t have a gun, just that he didn’t shoot lol

  5. Id like to see the evidence of him retracting his statement or proof that the gun was registered to him- police reports from the officers on scene like you usually do would also be helpful.

  6. This video is a good party game. Everytime he says "shot", do one, everytime he asks "why did you guys shoot at me!?" Shotgun a beer. Everytime he says "4 times", take a dab or bong rip. 😵🍻😖

  7. Sad the officer missed him! However when they were trying to help the loud mouth jerk by loosing his left handcuffs and he decided to fight with them, they should have just hog tied him and threw him in the backseat of the patrol car and had an officer drop his ass off at jail ASAP. The jail can listen to him say he’s innocent and was shot at blah blah blah. While he’s being taken to jail the other officers can actually hear themselves think while they finish processing the paperwork.

  8. The officers demonstrated great composure during this tense situation. The moron is very lucky that he could listen to his Miranda Rights as they were being read to him later. Case Closed.

  9. 2:57 The officer stated no one would know about Military time {21:00} hrs simple its 24 hrs in the Day {00:00} is 12 am then 1 am etc 12 moon thats 12 hrs after that you add one so {13:00} is 1 pm etc, }23:55} is {11:55} easy. Geez people what do they teach in school these days crap?

  10. As a person who has been in a raid for someone else’s crap, I would like to point out that typically, if you don’t have a gun, you don’t say, “I didn’t shoot anything!” You say, “I don’t HAVE anything!” Or something like that. It’s natural in an exciting situation like that and people usually tell as close to the truth as they are able so it’s more likely that he had a gun just based on what he said.

  11. officers handled the situation perfectly. Officer Jesse is a bad ass very good deescalation skills and empty handed skills.

  12. I can understand why cops do not like to shoot at anyone for anything. If they have to go thru all this every time they shoot it would be a bigger pain. Does anyone ask the offender what he did and why?

  13. Yes, I read the story first.
Cops arrive and this moron has a gun in his hands. He points it at the cops and then gets 4 shots from the officers gun launched his way ! He then ducks down behind his car and hides the gun. He then pops up and shows his hands are empty. Officer no longer shoots at him.
Easy win for the officer. Once the officer seen that he was not armed, he did not engage fire. This Moron is LUCKY the officer missed ! If The Officer had not missed, the story would be "Man shot Dead during domestic dispute by police, Gun found laying by dead body"

    Great Job Officer !!!!
Just get some more Shooting training so in case this happens Again, You don't miss!
