Tulsa police released videos Friday depicting a chase that led to an officer’s shooting at a driver who rammed his pickup into the officer’s patrol vehicle, injuring him. The pursuit occurred about Nov. 17 when Officer Clayton Hicks attempted to pull over a red Dodge pickup leaving the QuikTrip store near 31st Street and Sheridan Road, police said. The officer believed that the truck was speeding. When it didn’t stop, Hicks chased the truck, driven by 27-year-old Richard Jean Letourneau, through some nearby neighborhoods, police said. Near 26th Place and 77th East Avenue, Letourneau “slammed on his brakes” and reversed the pickup at a high speed into Hicks’ patrol car, police said.

Video footage shows the truck lead the officer through unpaved terrain before returning to the roadway, where the truck stopped and backed into the patrol car. Hicks fired shots at the pickup, but the bullets didn’t strike Letourneau, who fled in his truck after the patrol car was disabled, police said. Video footage indicates the officer fired over a dozen rounds at the vehicle before it fled. After the vehicle leaves, Hicks can be heard saying, “I’m hurt. He just rammed me. Shots fired,” to dispatchers. He later says, “I think he broke my arm.”

The truck was located abandoned on 28th Street near Sheridan Road, and Letourneau was found walking nearby, police said. Hicks’ arm was injured when his car’s airbag deployed. He was treated and released. Letourneau was arrested and later charged with assault with a dangerous weapon, leaving the scene of an injury accident, eluding and reckless driving. He is being held in lieu of $17,500 bond, according to jail records.

  5. I cant believe I watched this and I always read the description before watching, but this one I didnt. This damn fool is related to us. WOW this really is close to home. SMH
    For the officer that he hurt I'm so sorry. I seen him when he was 6 years old. Sad thing is he has one of the best dads. Society cant blame this one on the parents.

I just read the laws and a loss as a police officer cannot shoot at a running or fleeing in a car at a such that they have to be and threatening danger and if somebody's running away or fleeing in a car they're not posing any danger to a police officer and that case it's murder when a police officer fired upon a person running away or fleeing the scene it is murder if he shoots him

  11. ASSHOLE! I just wrote an entire story on FB about how dangerous P/U Trucks can be to civilians and cops. There a a lot of videos just like this showing a P/U ramming the front end of a cop car and getting away! The fact is that the way they are built they don't get as much damage as the cop car/truck when getting slammed like this, The bumper guard or pusher bar is pushed into the engine compartment doing more damage and usually causing the car to be disabled and the cop hurt. I wish the cop had hit his mark but was very shaken up as you can hear it in his voice.

  14. He broke his arm from the airbag, damn. If I was a cop I think I'd want a foot switch or something to disable that thing when I see a suspect doing this. That hit wasn't hard enough to cause whiplash or anything like that but that airbag sure does some damage.

  19. Doesn't take much to set off air bags. I remember smashing grocery carts into the front of parked cars to set off the bags. A lot of fun, lol.

  26. $17,500? Why is this so low? If you deliberately assault a police officer with a 2-ton vehicle, you can be out on a nothing bond like that? Who would want to be a cop if this is how they're treated?
