The NYPD is released today body-worn camera footage, picture, civilian phone recording, from an officer-involved in a fatal shooting that occurred on November 11th, 2021, in the confines of the 62nd Precinct.
According from By Joe Marino and Craig McCarthy from the New York Post:
Brian Astarita, 65, of Brooklyn was pulled over by a police officer for speeding in a gray Jeep Cherokee near highway’s Bay 8th Street exit around 4 p.m. on November 11th, 202. But as the cop approached the car, Astarita took off, NYPD said.
The female officer chased after Astarita, who rammed the cop’s car when she stopped in front of the Jeep near the Verrazzano Bridge, authorities said.
Astarita then went to the back seat to grab his black weapon and walked toward officers on the highway, police said. The NYPD later released a photo of Astarita’s BB gun.
Cops suspect he may have taunted them into killing him, sources said.
Officers opened fire at the suspect, striking him multiple times, according to police. Astarita was rushed to Lutheran Medical Center where he was prononce dead.

Glad the police are ok. 2 things though. 1. What the hell does the NYPD teach their officers for pursuit training? That's the dumbest thing I've seen in a long while. and 2. What the hell is wrong with that idiot in the mercedes? Comes to a complete stop blocking traffic to record twice. The second time they were in the line of fire along with everyone else behind them. I know I'm not the only one to see the bullet ricochet off the concrete. If they miss low they'll miss wide and towards the cars.
Oh good I was hoping all the comments would be about her not calling backup.
What's with the silver mercedes? It passes by only to slow down and get over taken again and then is stationary during the shoot out and holding up others from getting pass?

For the editor of this video you can red arrow the C02 air pistol but as he was pointing it at the officer’s and firing they don’t know it’s not an actual fire arm so they are still justified.

Officers conduct in giving commands was provocative in tone and demeanor. Probably would not have made a difference with a subject bent on violence. A generation ago, you would not see a chief holding a press conference with a department of 30,000 plus officers. OIS were everyday occurences.
All she needed was a p.i.t. maneuver. Apparently not allowed in NYC. SMH
I love how people are saying that she was stupid to get infront of his vehicle when literally it was the best and safest thing to do given the situation. She was able to control the suspects speed and direction by doing so. I mean just recently we saw a LEO in a high speed chase loose control of his vehicle and run over a elderly man on the sidewalk, killing him. By staying infront of him and essentially working as a low speed moving barricade she prevented this from escalating into a high speed altercation on a busy and narrow road. Seriously what's the alternative? Let him go infront? Let the suspect control the speed of the pursuit? And then what, pull off a PIT maneuver? On a busy narrow road? Really, you think that would be the safest thing for not only the cop but for the other drivers on the road? I commend this officer but being calm and and responsive, which in turn kept everyone on the road safe and gave time for the back up to arrive.
