Thornton, Colorado — On September 5th, 2022, at approximately 7:30 AM, officers were dispatched to the 8500 block of I-25 to check the well-being of a male party who was walking in traffic. Multiple people had called 9-1-1 to report that the male was causing cars on the highway to swerve. One caller stated she had almost hit the male with her car.

When they arrived, officers located a 29-year-old male, identified as 29-year-old Darylray Lopez, and attempted to talk to him in the 8500 block of northbound I-25. During the interaction, Lopez produced a knife, charged at an officer, and was shot by that Thornton PD officer. Lopez was transported to an area hospital where he later died. No officers or other people were injured in this incident.

  6. These oath breakers are pathetic sacred cowards. They always go for the gun and shoot first. How about less lethal? No? To scared of your day job? Maybe don’t join law enforcement if you can’t handle yourself against a person with a knife. However, having said that, one less burden in the world.

  14. Good job officers, a deadly threat has been neutralized by lead injections. Another instance where the comment section is taken over by people saying he was just trying to be heard… by making passerbys swerve to avoid hitting him and endangering other drivers, not to mention rushing a police officer with a knife… Just trying to be heard, right? Is the knife and making people risk their lives swerving around him just a tool to get heard or was it a vessel to murder a police officer? Soft skulled among us shall insist he was a good man, a future neurosurgeon some may say. I say this was a desirable outcome because only one person was hurt and it was the moron with zero regard for life and public safety, he won't be missed. Bye.

I get it that barking orders to someone that presents an active threat with a weapon is protocol…that being said there are physical signs (decorticate posturing) that someone exhibits after traumatic injury. Who knows if their brains can even process commands at this point. So many videos in here showing precious minutes wasted screaming and yelling at someone who is most likely beyond being able to comply. Quicker aid probably wouldn’t have helped in this case anyways but who knows.

  33. I tend to think scum like this are on heavy drugs. Wandering around a highway in traffic, pulls a knife on a cop, advances aggressively. Their reality is distorted; they seem to feel invulnerable. I believe that more than I do the theory that they all want suicide by cop.

  40. Nothing to complain about the shooting, but the blurring of people's faces is annoying af. It's ok when it's a minor, but other than that, there's no reason to do this shit.

  42. I’m not sure if the Adams County Colorado deputy was wearing a body camera when he shot a suspect near 88th Ave and I-76 five years ago but if there is footage of that incident I’d like to see it on this channel because there hasn’t been much transparency about that event.
