  1. What a complete dipshit. Back up and wait for people that actually know how to talk to people with mental illnesses. This was so unnecessary.

  2. Tazer would have been a better option and dropped granny like a sac of dirt, unfortunately this officer used a firearm and now she's in the dirt. Sad situation, I see lots of body cam videos of officers showing up and immediately escalating the situation to the max lvl, literally saw a video where 2 officers knocked on a apartment door aggressively " without identifying themselves or saying anything whatsoever and door had no peep hole" so the guy cracked the door open to see who kept violently banging on his door in the wee hours of the night, and he had his handgun in hand ( as anyone would when not knowing what's going on) then an officer sees the gun and starts screaming Gun!gun! And they start shooting at the guy! Fortunately they were shit and missed him and he was ok…imagine waking up in the middle of the night to that chaos

  3. What an-icee of garbage! He just wanted to shoot someone. I could have disarmed that lady with my bare hands. Cop on a power trip. He should definitely go to prison for life. It’s murder!!

  4. If you only want things to go zero to 40 and don’t want things to go from zero to 100 then don’t call people who might take it to 100.

I wish there had been another way. Maybe mace, taser? I don’t know, but one of the ladies was saying “Está enferma” meaning “she’s [mentally] sick” ….she was probably hoping they could calm the old lady down, but with knives you have training that says a lethal response is necessary. This is def one of those gray areas for me.

  5. As an Paramedic, this makes me so upset. It’s always heartbreaking to walk into a call, where you know if only you had a chance to just try to talk them down things would’ve been different. Especially if they are like her. She wasn’t aggressive. 😢 I wouldn’t try it with someone obviously violent but she just looked so confused. When he yelled at his partner to drag at her out I could hear in his voice he knew he messed up.

Even in my setting my go to is never to physically harm anyone… that is usually the last resort if all else fails.

This is happening way too often with mentally ill people being killed due to lack of training on how to de-escalate. They don’t actually want to harm you. Granny would’ve gotten a knee in her fragile bones but I wouldn’t be able to kill her. Man!!

    🙏🏾

  6. Really? Shooting a old lady because she was holding a knife? Someone needs more training. If the officer knew she was demented. Just talking in a calming voice may have been all it took to disarm her. If not, pepper spray or even a taser would have been a more obvious choice.

  7. the fault lies with the stupid old women who called the police… they know very well what the final outcome can be if a police officer in the US encounters a person armed with knives endangering other people. If they loved that lady so much, they would have beaten her with a stick and pulled out the knives and never called the police. maybe she was alive, or they were all dead.

  8. NOPE NOPE NOPE he’s not in the rite. There’s so many other ways he could of handled that situation

  9. I would have taken the mental health issues and or dementia into mind and not have went lethal.
I would have played it out and hopefully it led to disarm with or without non lethal weapons rather than shoot her because i understand she likely has no idea what shes doing and cant comprehend the officer.
Its a shame , cops should be trained on crisis intervention and mental health.

  10. I am thinking there will be a need for a powerful sedative to take the person down. None of that tasing or shooting them dead is necessary. Just get the person exposed and wait a minute or less. Without that there is no real path out for the knifer except death which I suspect might be the goal of the dementia patient. Essentially suicide by cop. There isnt much else one can say in this kind of a situation. What a mess.
