The Los Angeles Police Department has released body camera and smartphone footage related to an Officer-Involved Shooting that occurred on November 29, 2023, at approximately 11:10 p.m.
Officers from the Olympic Division responded to a radio call reporting an “Assault with a Deadly Weapon suspect there now” at the 300 block of South Kenmore Avenue. While en route, officers observed the suspect, later identified as 28-year-old Dominica Briones, in the middle of the roadway, attempting to attack a Hispanic male with a knife.
Upon arrival, the officers requested backup, exited their vehicle, and ordered Briones to drop the knife. Briones disregarded these commands and continued advancing toward the victim swinging the knife. The victim used a dresser drawer found on the sidewalk as a shield, holding it up to protect himself from Briones’ stabbing attempts, leading to an Officer-Involved Shooting.
Briones was struck by gunfire and subsequently taken into custody without further incident. The Los Angeles Fire Department responded, providing medical attention to Briones and transporting her to a local hospital, where she received treatment for her injuries and in stable condition.
The victim sustained a minor laceration to his finger and received on-site treatment from the Los Angeles Fire Department personnel. A kitchen knife with a 3-inch blade was recovered from Briones’ purse.
On December 4, 2023, Briones was discharged from the hospital. Additionally, on the same day, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office Charged Briones with:
One count of Assault with a Deadly Weapon.
