Los Angeles, California — On July 26, 2021, LAPD Pacific Patrol Division officers responded to a radio call of a “hot prowl burglary” at an apartment in the 3700 block of Barry Avenue. Upon their arrival, officers heard yelling and saw the suspect, later identified as 58-year-old Herman Gonzalez, through the broken front window of the apartment. Gonzalez was in the front living room, armed with a large kitchen knife. Gonzalez was holding the knife against an elderly woman, shielding himself behind her, as they walked toward the front door of the apartment. The officers gave Gonzalez multiple commands to drop the knife; however, he refused to comply; resulting in an Officer-Involved Shooting. Gonzalez was struck by the gunfire and fell to the floor. The Los Angeles Fire Department responded to the scene and pronounced Gonzalez deceased. The knife Gonzalez was armed with was recovered at scene.

  1. Gosh, I hope the mother and the police officers involved recover from this trauma. The police officer didn’t have another option but to shoot the man. If we didn’t have police officers protecting us, the country would be absolute hell.

  2. G'day, I'm no criminal, and I'm not in the US, but I think I know 1 thing about how it works over there, if the cops arrive and draw their weapons, you better turn to stone with your hands in the air or chances are you'll be dealt with quickly. It's a different world for cops over there and the responses to those threats are impressive.

  3. While I certainly feel awful for the mother and that she has to go through this, I see nobody really mention the fact that this Officer was put through this trauma as well. He had no choice but to take the son's life to keep the mother safe, he also has to live with this decision for the rest of his life. Imagine if you or I had to make that split second choice ? Very sad situation all the way around, and I feel bad for the mother and the Officer.

  4. It's almost like we should be increasing funding to social health programs and decreasing poverty so that entire generations of people aren't left desperate for answers to how to help their loved ones and don't have to watch them be shot during a mental breakdown. Almost like we need serious Healthcare reform. Bet that's not being advocated for by the commenters here

  5. People feeling sad for the woman. If she raised him well, he wouldn't end up there. She killed him way back when he was a teen.

  6. That's the most depressing and sad thing to hear,a mother mourning for her child.
Even when the little shit abuses them and holds her at knife point she doesn't want him harmed.

  7. What'd you expect the cops to do lady !
These people expect the cops to come over and take the same abuse from the person, spouse relative etc. that they let happen to themselves !
    Like uh …. nope !
They have a weapon and don't do as they're told they're gonna get smoked !

They're cops ,NOT moderators, mediators, counselors, therapists, or hostage negotiators!

They think Danny Glover or Mel Gibson is gonna show up and negotiate with their psycho family member 😅😂🤣

  8. cop shoots worthless n***a
    Mom: "Please don't kill him."
Cop: "Wow, wish you had said so earlier. I could have avoided all this."

  9. Very clearly mentally ill if he wanted to kill himself, as the mother said. Being mentally ill – even if you try to harm others during an episode – doesn't make you a bad person. However, it does make you a broken person and the cops had no choice in this situation.

  10. I think he shot too quickly. It was her son not a stranger and he did not stab her just obviously he's mentally slow and walking behind her with his trusty knife

  11. She might want him to live, but we (society) don't like people who take hostages. So, sorry not sorry.
