Jacksonville, Florida — On April 21, 2022, just before 4 a.m. officers with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office responded to the 7200 block of Morse Avenue in reference to an armed suspect in the area making threats. Sheriff T.K. Waters, who at the time was JSO’s chief of investigations, said that initially, officers were unable to locate the man. He said officers came back around 11:30 a.m. following another call from neighbors. That’s when, Waters said, officers made contact with 43-year-old Kevin Mahan, who was in a wooded area. Body cam footage shows an officer, gun drawn, repeatedly yell for Mahan to drop the ax, as was originally explained by Waters. The video shows Mahan standing with the ax next to his head. The officer fires one shot, striking Mahan and killing him. No officers were injured.

  1. As a Jacksonville, FL resident I was taught growing up that you never talk back to a JSO officer unless you wanna die. I guess this guy never got the memo.

  2. The cop sounded so satisfied when he said "shots fired" like he's been waiting to find a reason to shoot someone.

  3. I would think a cop can step out of the way of a thrown hatchet from that distance ? Shot too the head without a firearm very unnecessary! 😮🤬🤯literally

  4. Cop gave commands, put the ax down, dude didn't listen, instead raises it up…? What happens when one armed w a deadly weapon doesn't listen, a response of deadly force!

  5. This is way ill never call the cops. They escalate everything. This is how they want you to treat the homeless. I talk to them with a 100% rating of them leaving. More bees with honey.

  6. Looks like people think this is controversial. I wonder what's wrong with the suspect that no one here is even considering peacefully burning a city to the ground or donating pallets of bricks to street corners. 🤔

  7. He raised the hatchet as if to throw it. That is a deadly threat, the guy played a stupid game and won his prize.
