Hilltown Police Officers Rescue Horse From Fire

Hilltown, Pennsylvania — On July 23, 2020 at 1038 hours, Hilltown Police responded to a barn fire in the 1500 block of Hilltown Pike. Minutes later, arriving officers found a large barn with heavy smoke and fire showing. People on scene notified the responding officers that there was still a horse inside of the burning barn. Officer Matthew Reiss and Officer Kristian Hanus immediately entered the barn and rescued the frightened animal, with the assistance of a farm worker. The Hilltown Fire Company and several other area companies arrived a short time later to find the building fully engulfed in flames. In total, fifteen fire companies and six EMS units from Bucks and Montgomery Counties responded to the two-alarm blaze. EMS tended to eight (8) people that required medical attention at the scene. Four (4) of the eight (8) patients were transported to area hospitals. Both officers also received minor injuries. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Bucks County Fire Marshal’s Office and Hilltown Police.

  1. I applaud those officers, you could hear it in their voice that they weren’t going to let that horse die and that they were going to do everything possible until it was safe
