An Arlington police officer was injured after a drunk driver rammed into her patrol car on purpose. Josue Pablo Mendez was arrested and will be charged with aggravated assault on a public servant and evading arrest.

According to the Arlington Police Department, the officer tried to pull Mendez over just before 5 a.m. Sunday. Mendez sped away and led the officer on a chase on State Highway 360 going speeds over 100 mph. APD says as Mendez exited Six Flags Drive, he spun onto the median after losing control.

He ended up facing the officer’s patrol car, and rammed into it to try and disable it.

“This caused extensive damage to the patrol car and pinned the officer inside. The officer went to a hospital and was treated and released. She is expected to be o.k.” APD wrote on its Facebook page.

Mendez took off from the scene but was arrested hours later in Fort Worth.

Chief Johnson posted about the incident on Twitter Sunday afternoon, along with pictures.

He wrote, “DWI’s will NOT be tolerated in Arlington, nor will intentional ramming of our cars by suspects trying to flee.”

  1. Appears to have been found guilty of aggravated assault against a public servant and evading arrest with a vehicle. Sentenced to seven years. Back on the streets in 2023 if he behaves apparently.
