North Charleston, South Carolina — On May 7, 2023, Deputy Evan Cubbage from the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle shortly before 3:45 p.m. at 4915 Savannah Highway near Ravenel. The 36-year-old, deputy Cubbage, with more then three years on the force called for backup after a “brief interaction” with the driver and the passenger, identified as 28-year-old James Pierce. The sheriff’s office described the stop as “cordial, up until this point,” when Pierce became “squirrelly”. A second deputy, identified as Alexander Hodge, arrived a short time later to provide backup. Deputy Cubbage stood by the passenger side door, which Pierce had opened because the windows were tinted and the deputy couldn’t see inside.

Deputy Cubbage appears to grab the Pierce’s hands and tells him not to reach for anything as he is getting out to of the car. “He’s got a gun,” the deputy called. During the encounter, Pierce opened fire on the deputies, and deputy Cubbage was struck. The deputies returned fire, hitting Pierce, who died at the scene. Pierce was armed with a Glock .40-caliber handgun; the deputies fired their 9 mm service pistol. Deputy Cubbage was shot three times. He was released from the hospital after getting treatment for serious but non-life threatening injuries later that night. Deputy Hodge was not injured. After the shooting, deputies detained the woman driver, who has not been identified. It is unclear if she faces any charges. Per protocol, the deputies involved in the shooting are on paid administrative leave.

I'm not the biggest fan of the police, but that cop was definitely next-level when he dove under the car, popped up, shot through the windows, ran around the car, and hit him while he was shooting at the other officer. He seemed very friendly and cordial up until everything went south. Oh well. I don't see any problem here. Hope the officer recovers.

  7. The more I look at it, the more I think the only way Cubbage could have been hit in the legs was by his partner, Hodge, as he was coming around the far side of Pierce. Seems to have caught a ricochet in the legs as Pierce was shooting the other way towards Hodge.

    Lady, let the police do their jobs. Please don't get the officers more POed than they already are, their lives were almost taken by that cockroach of a man.

    On a serious note, I'm proud of the officers taking that POS out of this planet. Play dumb games, win dumb prizes! The officer that took it in the leg and still taken down that gunman, kudos! That took some titanium balls!

  16. Deputy Cubbage really had a Keene sense something was wrong and he acted fast, my goodness that was crazy!! That girl just standing out in the open looking stupid should have run for cover, maybe she was in shock. I don't understand what's wrong with people, that guy was willing to take a human life and lose his own life for what, like man up and take your charges. I'm glad both deputies are okay and deputy Cubbage is recovering, he really did a good job and protected the other deputy too with his quick thinking and quick response.

  21. Amazing work by the LEO that made the stop… he took cover on the ground and side of the car and was aware of the suspects location and quickly took shots at him Thru the windshield then came around and shot his head one handed… in my hobby we call that “he john Wayne his ass”

    Old song, I just swapped out the word "one" with the word "thug". So glad the officer is going to be okay and the other officer wasn't hit.

  26. Unemployed behaviour. The Officer's guns clearly weren't seasoned enough. Should have controlled the absolute f**k out of the burner immediately too. She was a massive threat.

They should have taken out that white lady too and just call it collateral – just say she got in the way while he was getting him inside the car.
