Dashcam Video Captures Suspect Shooting at New Haven Police Officer

New Haven, Connecticut — On October 7, 2022, at about 1:29 AM, New Haven Police responded to reports of a car accident near the intersection of Chapel Street and Blatchley Avenue in the Fair Haven neighborhood. Shortly after arriving at the scene, the driver of the vehicle opened fire and shot at Officer Chad Curry, striking Officer Curry twice in the shoulder and ear. Officer Curry returned gunfire and the suspect fled the scene. The suspect, was later identified as 36-year-old Jose Claudio. Authorities arrested Claudio, of New Haven, after determining he was inside a home on Putnam Street in Hartford. He was taken into custody without further incident. Officer Curry was transported by fellow officers to Yale New Haven Hospital, located at 20 York Street, where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and released later in the morning. Claudio was charged with first-degree assault of a public safety officer, criminal possession of a firearm, carrying a pistol without a permit, unlawful discharge of a firearm and first-degree reckless endangerment. Claudio is being held on $1 million bond and is scheduled to appear in court Tuesday, Oct. 11.

  3. People complaining about the leniency of the charges are forgetting that this happened in Connecticut, one of the most looney, Leftist, crime-loving & criminal-coddling states in the Union! What do you expect? 🤷‍♂

  5. Soft on crime DA or AG = attempted murder is now assault, which they can plea down. Although admittedly I am surprised by the $1 million bond, no shocked really.

  6. Woow that's disturbing, then people wounder why police officers are quitting? The answer: the judicial system is sucks.
