A Fridley police officer suffered minor injuries in a crash involving another car Friday morning, according to police. Police say at 8:10 a.m. the officer was heading southbound on University Avenue NE near Mississippi St. NE with emergency lights on attempting to catch up to a semaphore violator. As the squad car proceeded through the intersection, most traffic on Mississippi St. yielded for the squad, but one vehicle did proceed through and struck the squad.

The squad, a 2015 Ford Utility, overturned and landed on its roof. The officer, who was wearing his seat belt, was taken to a local hospital. The adult male driver and adult female passenger in the other car also suffered minor injuries. The passenger was also taken to an area hospital. The driver is cooperating with police and there are no indications of impairment, police said. The semaphore violator was not identified and did not stop at the scene. The Minnesota State Patrol will handle the crash investigation.

  1. Ran a red light at full speed, didn’t hit anyone, avoided the ticket, and caused a cop to wreck. I wonder if he even knew what happened behind him.

  2. just fished through a lot of comments and nobody has mentioned that this is a prime fucking example of why you should be aware of what the cars around you are doing. There are TWO cars at that light that do not move when the light turns green. You need to notice these things.

  3. That poor guy, I know it's stereotypical that black ppl have problems with police but this man was minding his own business and shit hit the fan so goddamn fast here. He was clearly in shock since he didn't even know what do when the cops rolled up. That fucking cop

  4. i am glad the black guy wasn't arrested for anything. why are there so many cop cars in the intersection? right after the crash, 2 more cop cars came to help.

  5. "As the squad car proceeded through the intersection, most traffic on Mississippi St. yielded for the squad, but one vehicle did proceed through and struck the squad." Misleading much? The guy didn't yield because he wasnt stopped beforehand. He approached the intersection when the light had already turned green. Why would he stop??

  6. What the officer could have done to avoid this was to notice that there was no car stopped at the far right lane and slowed down right before that lane to see if no car was coming. That car wasn't able to see the cop car because the two cars on the left were blocking his view.

  7. the man in the Camry had no chance to react. the officer also failed to scan his surrounds as he took off from the red light. thank god the officer said he was OK and the fact that the gentleman stepped out with no problems.

  8. Let me preface this by saying I am one of the most pro-police people alive. I have police as family, I want to be a police officer, the police department is basically a lifestyle around me. That being said, this was the officer's fault. The driver couldn't see him from that angle as the other two cars were blocking. The officer, pulling out into the intersection and KNOWING the other lights would be green, continues on without yielding to make sure there were no more oncoming cars before continuing pursuit. NO ticket is worth causing an accident and filing out paperwork as well as possible repercussions.

  9. That moment when you flip a cop car (but not your fault), and you want to help because you are worried about the cops health, but you're black so you put your hands up in the air
