Authorities claim a Zion man was legally drunk when he drove at a police officer who shot him through the window of his car around 11 p.m. on July 26, 2016. Devon J. Davidson, 24, was charged with aggravated fleeing and eluding police and aggravated DUI, Lake County state’s attorney’s office spokeswoman Cynthia Vargas said. Judge Patricia Fix ordered Davidson held on $750,000 bail. Devon is now suing the north suburb, claiming he “posed no threat” to officers and that the use of potentially deadly force against him was “excessive.”

Note,
Legally drunk, is a term used when talking about DUI or DWI laws regarding whether someone has been drinking and driving.

  1. I guess it's not possible to pick the Police side if they keep trying to execute fleeing suspects through side windows or by purposely jumping in front of their cars. This is prohibited according to your laws, for all I know, and they should do something about that.

  2. Zion ended up paying him $75,000 in a settlement. Davidson was convicted of aggravated DUI & was sentenced to 13 months in prison to be served at 50%, with credit given for the 141 days. Charges related to fleeing the police, possession of marijuana and intent to deliver were dismissed. Blood tests at the hospital revealed an alcohol content of .20 percent, more than twice the legal limit.

  3. damn lol, this comment thread is like straight ancient Romans "he made a bad drunk mistake… Slowly Turns Thumbs down!!!! Release the Lions!!! like damn, did he fuck up? ya. Did he cause a pretty dangerous situation? Yep! should he be immediately killed hands down no questions about it? I would hope not… Society has (and to be fair has for a long time) viewed people who break laws and commit crimes and make shit head decisions always out to be worse than termites, and the more you kill the better. Just because somone makes a shitty choice doesnt mean we should all meet at public square and get a freshly tied rope- like jesus people. In this case for example, did the dude break the law? hell ya. Should he probably go to jail? no Question. Should the officer have shot at the back of his head as he went by? I would argue no. Lets play out two scenarios specifically dealing with the moment the officer shot. Scenario one, exactly what happened- the guy was peeling off, turned at an angle towards the officer, passed the officer, the officer shot him, and the car passed by. scenario two- the guy was peeling off, turned at an angle towards the officer, and the officer doesnt shoot, and the car passed by. This in no way increased officer safety, and if you argue that by the officer shooting him, he;s less likely to harm somone else, fine, but then dont argue it was officer self defense…. I have the utmost respect for police officer,s actually wanted to be one all my life… but for the love of god, if ur gonna shoot the suspect, make sure they are still coming towards you, and have not already passed you lol

  4. "Not a threat to the officers ????"
He reversed, he could had driven forward and reversed immediately again on the police officer on foot (thx god he didn't do that). I have already watched a video like that, so yeah basicaly a car can be considered as a weapon.

  5. It doesn't matter if the guy drives off and kills someone else the cop is only justified if his life is in immediate danger and it wasn't he was at the side of the car not in front and he had to run along side for a split second to fire inside the car so he could of stopped and stepped out and he was fine. I'm a blue lives matter guy and this one is kinda shady I also know there are trigger finger cops out there not all cops and 99% are good ones but there are bad seeds out there

  6. Honestly People I'm always with cops in shootings but this one is shady. That cop wasn't gonna get run over nor was he in front of the car. That cop should of never fired his weapon being he was already going by him. This cop should be charged and fired and for the suspect the cops just made him a rich man

  7. When the fuck did a pistol become "potentially deadly force??" I guess it was around the time rubber bullets became "non-lethal."

  8. Cop shoots after he's out of danger. But it's okay, the guy was drunk. We've given police the authority to execute drunks on the spot .

  9. Oh I'm fearing fro my life from the car that is moving away from me. My trigger finger is getting itchy. Got to shoot somebody. Got to shoot somebody.

  10. He might not have posed a threat to the officers but he was drunk running from the cops at high speeds. He can go fuck himself.

  11. That was perfect use of deadly force. Restrained until the person actually started going towards him. Glad the officer went home.

  12. You can't shoot a fleeing suspect unless they're putting lives at risk.

With that said, he put that officer's life at risk. He had that bullet coming.

  13. Should have used patrol car to pin his car in, gave him room to back up. Would probably have been done. If he started bashing his way out with his car the officer would have more time to use his gun to end it without so much danger getting struck by the car. But hey, its never textbook. Bad dude is gonna hurt innocent citizen on the highway and it should have been finished then and there.

  14. A vehicle is considered a "weapon". The drive was drunk, fleeing at high speeds and could potentially injure or kill an innocent bystander. The use of deadly force in my eyes, would be justified. Think, if your child was playing in that neighborhood and was fatally struck by this maniac, would you still think this officers actions were unjustified? Please don't reply, I could careless of your thoughts on my opinion.

  15. An imminent threat to yourself or others that could cause GBI or death…that is what you need to use lethal force.  He was fully justified in taking that shot.

  16. My idea is if you drive drunk. You deserve to die because you're not only endangering yourself but you are endangering those around you.
