Dash Cam High Speed Chase Drunk Driver Brown County Sheriff’s Office

Brown County, Wisconsin —– Dash camera video released shows an alleged drunk driver reaching speeds of 150 miles per hour on Interstate 41, moments before crashing. The driver, 18-year-old Joseph Obert-Walton, has been charged with two felonies in Brown County.
Law enforcement are exasperated and outraged, and they’re begging friends and family to stop drunk people from getting behind the wheel.

In the early morning hours of Aug. 23, a Brown County Sheriff’s deputy spotted a car swerving off the side of the road at least three times.

The deputy attempted to stop the car, but driver Joseph Obert-Walton took off.

Obert-Walton, 18, quickly reaches speeds topping 100 miles per hour.

“Vehicle is all over the road. Speeds over 130,” the deputy says.

The chase goes on for about four minutes before the deputy loses sight of Obert-Walton’s vehicle.

Moments later, Obert-Walton’s car loses control.

A dispatcher tells the deputy, “State Patrol is saying vehicle rolled at Double-J.”

Prepared for the worst, deputies rushed to the scene.

“Our officers, they thought for sure there was going to be some extremely severe injuries. They took off running towards the car with their AEDs, thinking they’d have to perform CPR on some people,” says Capt. Dan Sandberg, Brown County Sheriff’s Office.

Joseph Obert-Walton was ejected from the vehicle. He was not seriously injured. His girlfriend survived without serious harm.

A state patrol trooper who assisted at the scene of the crash said there was an open can of beer in the vehicle.

According to a criminal complaint, Obert-Walton’s girlfriend told investigators that her boyfriend had about “eight Bud Lights and numerous shots of liquor” before leaving a friend’s home in Suamico.

She told investigators that she told him to pull over, but he was afraid he would get in trouble for drinking and having a suspended license.

“This is one of the fastest people I’ve ever seen trying to get away from law enforcement,” Capt. Sandberg says. “The speeds that he was going… it… it terrifies you that people are that willing to endanger the rest of the community just to try to get out of something like that.”

Obert-Walton’s car is now in possession of investigators. It sits next to a car that was involved in a crash that killed Rebecca Pennenberg and her 18-year-old daughter, Raelia, as they walked on French Road in Lawrence.

The suspect in the crash, David Meyer, registered a .219 on a preliminary breath test. The legal limit to drive in Wisconsin is .08.

Of all fatal crashes in Brown County in 2017, nearly 60 percent involved alcohol or drugs.

Officers are begging friends, family, and community members to step in when they see impaired people attempting to drive.

  1. He had gotten away and crashed right about the same Time! That kid was rollin! He could literally say he got away from them.

  2. Someone needs a tissue, to blow there nose, and the tell me why I keep hearing a loud “ssssshhhhh ssshhhh” and the the daah daah sound from the TV show “Law and Order”. So much going on already, and I’m barely a minute in.

  3. The officer had his number plate, they just could have waited at his house for him to drive in the driveway instead of doing this insane 150 plus mph chase. Risking the Officer's life and other road users.

  4. That was the first chase video where you never saw the car they were chasing. Can't believe that thing went over the Bay Bridge in Green Bay

  5. Childhood friend of mine, he knows how to drive trust me. Too bad he wasnt a little more sober, easily wouldve gotten away.

  6. Thanks for wasting everybody's time with this should have been video of cop going fast with lights on lol no action don't put on here

  7. We need to enact a law that sends a criminal to ONE YEAR IN PRISON for every mile actively running from the police.
An additional 5 years added to that sentence for racing through a school zone, or near a loaded school bus.

If anyone (including passengers in the suspects vehicle) are injured, a charge of first degree assault should be included. This includes anyone injured by the police while actively chasing the suspect.

If anyone (including passengers in the suspects vehicle) are killed, the suspect should be charged with first degree murder. This includes anyone killed by the police while actively chasing the suspect.

WE ARE TIRED OF CRIMINALS ENDANGERING INNOCENT CITIZENS LIVES JUST BECAUSE THEY THINK THEY ARE ABOVE THE LAW !!!

  8. When r people gonna learn that it doesn't pay to run from the police. They will always catch you either with the helicopter or surveillance.

  9. Why are civilian vehicles even allowed to go that fast. This is the day and age that all cars run on computers and the top speed can be easily limited. No need for these vehicles to be capable of doing 100 mph.

  10. I wonder if drunk driving or having a suspended license would be a $100.00 ticket you wouldn't have this. How many people are killed running from police. Ya I know you would have people driving drunk and killing people. Maybe for killing someone while driving drunk they could get 15 years in prison, but first you have to kill someone.
