Casual Interrogation of a Bank Robber

Shannon Levar Stewart, 41, is facing a charge of first degree robbery, a Class A felony punishable with up to life imprisonment and/or a $50,000 fine. It is doubtful that he will receive either of the two maximum options. Let’s see why.

Just after 3:30 pm on July 8, 2019, Stewart, homeless and hungry, walked into an Lakewood, Washington Heritage Bank, heading straight to a teller and passing her a handwritten note reading: “This is a ROBBary give me money no GPS or DyE packs and no one wiLL get hurt.” [Capitalization in the original.]

The teller handed over some cash, and Stewart left for Safeway – where he spent $30 on groceries and alcohol. After his lavish shopping spree, Stewart attempted to call a cab, but got spooked over the wait time and instead walked to the bus. Hot on his trail by then and certainly not hindered by the fact that Stewart was wearing an ankle GPS tracker, local law enforcement picked Stewart up while he was waiting for the bus.

This is the interview of Shannon Levar Stewart, perhaps the most casual interrogation of a bank robber you will ever see.

  1. I know most are saying he’s dumb for talking to the cops, but sometimes being completely straightforward can help get you a deal
You know no one likes dealing with a difficult person/liar

  2. If he is homeless I don’t blame him cuz then he gets a home, food, and water and if he didn’t end up going to prison then he gets some money out of it rather then murdering someone and going to prison then being a sick person and not really getting anything out of it as well and this guy seems like actually a really genuine and cool guy to talk to.

  3. Policeman: You have the right to an attorney and you can choose to not answer any questions:
Guy: Ok so I like too eat meth.

  4. You every look at the comments in a video, see same person commenting on different videos and realize you following the same YouTube suggesting path?

  5. They wrote stories about him in washington with headlines like Lakewood Bank Robber Bought Groceries Before Arrest which make it appear like he was just some hungry homeless guy. Not a 3rd degree sex offender (convicted of rape and kidnapping, both 1st degree) and was a member of the Deuce 8 gang, according to the tattoo on his arm.

  6. This man seems like he could do well in a rehabilitation program. After rock bottom the only way to go is up.

  7. Can't say anything he did was RIGHT. He should have tried to make a life for himself just a little harder and avoided all of this. But with that being said, I can respect that he wasn't trying to hurt anyone, and he was more than cooperative with law enforcement with making this a speedy and clean process. I hope he comes out of this in a better situation. He seemed to smart to be doing this kind of stuff.

  8. spends $30 on groceries and alcohol..

    "After his lavish shopping spree,"

How the heck is $30 considered lavish?

  9. He might as well have tried to rob it in a more smart way. If he can’t get a job anywhere, it would be better if he just tried to rob it and get the money and leave. If he gets caught, free rent lol.

  10. "just bank robbery" … since the perp is more accustomed to level three sex offenses … plus I don't believe his story that he's never pulled a bank robbery before … and sadly that dude will be back out on the streets in a few months since that state loves to coddle sex offenders …

  11. these cops couldn't make a friend outside the department if their life depended on it…I would make the best detective/ investigative officer…"criminals" would admit their crimes in 10 mins id bet…

  12. Life imprisonment for such a crime does not really seem fair. IF he does not kill or harm anyone while robbing then its not right for him to spend his life in jail.
