The Nevada Highway Patrol just released dramatic video of what led to a trooper involved shooting from last Wednesday. Surveillance video captures who troopers say is 28-year-old Javier Munoz at a gas station near Fremont and Eastern. Chief Dennis Osborn says Munoz appeared to be waiting for the first victim at a gas station near Fremont and Eastern. Osborn says Munoz punched a woman and eventually wrestled her car away from her. “I’m going to take this. He almost took out another vehicle,” Trooper David Dudley, the trooper who gave chase, said during the pursuit. Dudley, a 17-year-veteran of the Nevada Highway Patrol, was recording on his Dashcam during the pursuit.

“We’re back at 80 miles per hour. He’s just fish-tailing all over the road. Any minute he’s going to be on fire. Go ahead let Henderson know we’re coming that way,” Dudley is heard saying on the video. The pursuit continued to Auto Show Drive in Henderson. “His tires are slowly disintegrating in front of me,” Dudley said. NHP troopers say Munoz continued on surface streets and drove over a median to get to the Findlay Cadillac dealership. Surveillance video from there shows Munoz run out of the car and violently throw a man to the ground while attempting to steal another vehicle. Bystanders tried to restrain Munoz as Trooper Dudley arrived. “Yo, I want you,” Dudley commands as Munoz begins driving the vehicle in reverse.

“I’m going to shoot you,” Dudley continued and opened fire moments later. Munoz is heard on the video screaming, “I’m dead. I’m dead. I’m dying.” The suspect was taken out of the vehicle and medical aid arrived within seconds. Munoz was rushed to UMC but died the next day from his injuries. According to Chief Osborn detectives haven’t determined why Munoz was in Las Vegas. The suspect was from Glendale, Ariz. and detectives believe he had only been in Las Vegas for two days. Detectives are also waiting on toxicology results to determine if Munoz was under the influence. According to troopers, Munoz has a criminal history including convictions for robbery, kidnapping, and evading law enforcement, and had been released from prison in December 2015.
