Gastonia, North Carolina — Gastonia Police Department released body camera footage of an officer involved shooting that occurred at Buffalo Wild Wings in Gastonia on Aug. 13, 2019. Officials said James Matthew Roberts Jr. was frantically waving a gun outside a Buffalo Wild Wings restaurant last August, threatening to shoot himself or someone else when police arrived. “The officer yells over 20 times for the defendant to, ‘Drop the gun, drop the gun,’” District Attorney Locke Bell said. Gastonia Police Officer Maurice Taylor III, fired four times at James Matthew Roberts Jr., 22, as Roberts stepped from his car and appeared to raise a pistol at Officer. Roberts was struck by at least one bullet and fell to the ground. After spending more than 150 days in jail awaiting trial, Roberts appeared on court on March 2, where he was charged for assault with a deadly weapon on a government official. He will spend more than two years on probation instead of a prison sentence. Officer Taylor was cleared in the shooting by Gaston County District Attorney Locke Bell.

  5. Sorry folks, I go the other way on these cops crying and losing it when they shoot an ahole who wanted to kill THEM!! if they can't deal with doing their job then they need to be fired. PERIOD. THAT'S the job you signed up for and society is just getting worse and worse so chances are if you are a cop, you're going to have to use your gun. Deal with it or go work at McDonalds.

  6. Ok, all of these videos have convinced me: the police need an executioner squad, so every time one of these nut jobs comes out and yells "Shoot me!" The cops can be like "ok," and an armored, heavily arms cop just pulls up, shoots them, and goes on to the next one. Save everyone a lot of time and grief.

  12. I hope this officer is assigned to the Desk Duty detail for the rest of his career. He is now damaged goods. And somebody did take his gun because he looked unstable . Did he fire three more rounds after the officer go there?

  16. I was working for the Gaston County Police when this incident happened. This officer started his shift thinking it was another normal night. Then it ended with his weapon being taken, put in an interview room, read his rights, and meticulously questioned. For those who think that cops aren't held responsible for their actions, you're dead wrong. We are held to a higher legal standard than anyone.

  20. I do not get it, when you have a gun, why ask cops to shoot you. Do it yourself, so you can be sure it is over in a second. when they shoot you chances are you will suffer and maybe survive, only to end in jail.

  29. That black officer must really love white people. He shot 4 times and only hit him once and was still devastated about what he had to do. The poor white guy just wanted to die and nobody could help him, so now he struggles on.
