San Antonio, Texas — On January 4, 2023, at approximately 8:30 pm, San Antonio Police patrol officers received a call for an individual who appeared to be intoxicated and brandishing a firearm near the corner strip located at the 1400 block of Culebra Rd. and was hiding at a nearby motel. When the officers arrived, they were told that the individual was in a room on the second floor of the motel. One officer went upstairs to contact the individual and knocked on the motel room door. The suspect opened the door and pointed a gun in the direction of the officer. Both officers immediately saw the male with the gun and began shooting at the suspect, striking him multiple times. No one else was injured during the incident. The 44-year-old suspect, Jose Iruegas, was transported to the hospital in critical condition. He has been charged with two counts of Terroristic Threats Against a Peace Officer. Police later determined that the object Iruegas brandished was a BB gun.

  1. All these people trying to be cops saying they could have done better. I bet most aren’t cops and have no desire to be one because they wouldn’t cut it. Until you are in their shoes this armchair quarterbacking is almost comical. You don’t get to respawn and get it perfect and pass to the next level. It’s one chance and it’s not going to go perfect.

  2. Lol…sounded like they got him! Excellent work getting out of that death trap the officer found himself in, bravo!

  3. Poor cop; I am generally not a fan of the cops, but in my opinion he did nothing wrong. He had killed a guy who likely committed suicide by cop. It was a shitty thing to do to a cop.

  4. Why didn't they try pepper spray first, then taser, negotiations? and shoot him in the leg as a last resort? This is why police don't need guns.

    ….just trolling you. 😉

  5. Very good by the complainant pushing the police to action, it sounded like they were trying to go the route of not infringing upon gun rights but the important point is he is intoxicated and thus illegal to carry.

  6. I usually side with our boys in blue, and still do. That officer was quick and did a good job. The only thing I had an issue is him acting like a middle school girl by walking off and saying, "whatever ". The complaining party had a good question. "So even if you have a gun permit, you are allowed to carry a gun if you are drunk"? The answer is, no. Maybe whatever state this is, it is. Here in Oklahoma, it is unlawful to carry if you are under the influence. Either way, good job officers, glad you made it hone safe.
