The Woodbury County Sheriff released dashcam and bodycam video of the pursuit and roll over crash near Salix, Iowa Tuesday. The video shows a deputy attempt to pull over a sedan traveling west on K35. break lights for the car turn on but it never stops. Authorities say 36 year-old Justin derby of Onawa, Iowa, was behind the wheel. Deputies added Derby was driving with a barred license.

The video continues with the vehicle, with four other passengers inside, running a stop sign as the car turned left on Old Highway 75 in Sloan. you can hear the deputy say “he blew the stop sign” in the video. Speeds in the chase reached 117mph according to authorities as Derby attempted to shake the deputy giving chase. Both Derby and the deputy passed multiple vehicles on the road. The chase came to a halt in Salix. As Derby is passing a semi, he has to swerve to avoid an oncoming semi and loses control of the vehicle. The deputy then can be heard saying “rollover” as the car somersaults three times before landing right-side up in a mucky field.

The rollover happens at the 5:54 mark in the video. Miraculously, all five people in the car lived. Two were taken to the hospital to be treated for undisclosed injuries. The chase for Derby didn’t end after the crash. Video shows him climb out of the car and make a dash for it on foot. The deputy can be heard getting out of his vehicle and then is seen giving chase. The video ends with both Derby and the Deputy running across the top of the screen in the field.

The deputy tracked Derby to a filthy pond where authorities say he jumped in to avoid being caught. They were able to coax him out and he was then taken in to custody but, not before being sent to the hospital. “Just to be checked over and be decontaminated from being in the sewage lagoon,” said Tony Wingert, with the Woodbury County Sheriff’s Office. Derby will face a slew of charges as well.

  1. That selvage pond is just up the road from my parents house like maybe 200 yards u can literally stand on my parents deck and see it . Lol what a shitty situation for this guy

  2. The Shawshank Redemption version was way better……..

And you know. Didn't have a guy so idiotically stupid he went all the way around the scale and stopped just sort of forgetting how to breath.

  3. This dude wishes he was a fish now… oh wait it's a fucking sewage pond, nothing but shit heads swimming around, notice how the stench of the place is causing the perp to have instant dementia forgetting what he just did few minutes ago. The irony is, his body could legally decay in that pond.

  4. Officers should be allowed to shoot a few rounds into the dirt to scare the perps into dropping, especially when safe to do so (like in an open field).

  5. he was probably waiting for divine intervention – to be given the power to walk on water. either that or he just wanted to enjoy one last bath for a while

  6. I don't know why but I kinda wanted one of the cops to start ringing a bell and chanting "Bring out your dead" at the end.

  7. Is it safe to say that (most always) people have absolute control over how a police encounter goes? I mean, act like a b!tch, get treated like a b!tch. Act hard, go down hard. Be respectful, get respected
