Moses Lake Police Officers were dispatched to a suicidal subject on the Division Street Overpass just before 8 this morning. Washington State Patrol Troopers, Grant County Deputies and members of Grant County Mental Health assisted as well. When officers arrived, they observed that the subject had climbed over the guardrail and was threatening to jump onto Interstate 90. The freeway was shut down as a precaution. MLPD Sgt. Sursely was one of the first city officers on scene, and immediately began a conversation with the subject. Sgt. Sursely is a 22-year veteran with the police department, and was recently certified as a crisis negotiatior. After talking for more than 25 minutes with the subject, Sgt. Sursely convinced the subject to come back over the fence and talk with him. The subject was then transported to Grant County Mental Health to receive mental health services. No criminal charges are pending.

  1. I know this Officer. A veteran of the US Air Force and a great police officer as you can witness!!!!!!! Love his de-escalation tactics.

  2. He actually got lung cancer and sued the cop and the County for contributing to it by giving him a cigarette and got millions. The cop went bankrupt, lost his home and wife divorced him and she moved in with the dude into the mansion he bought with the money. Too bad. Started out as a feel good story didn't it. I think I saw it on the internet so it has to be true.

  3. This literally brought me to tears and I can't explain the necessity for more genuinely good humans, not just cops, to exist in this world.

  4. Brilliant job by this officer, took off the badge for a second (metaphorically) and spoke to him like a human being

  5. I used to be like this but thank god i had responsible people that loved and cared for me now i have recieved hte therapy i need and i am ok

  6. I don't think a lot of people realize how often this happens. It isn't broadcast nearly enough what law enforcement does to help people of ALL ethnicities.. Rich and poor… I suppose there is one thing that is a positive out of all this anti-cop BS (MOST of it) AND bodycams.. Is the absolute majority of law enforcement aren't just out there to rack up arrest records and hammer people. I applaud this officer and all others who really do care. I hope the video didn't cut away and the guy got cuffed up. Psych eval ride but we al have our bad times in life… Hope this guy is doing better, and the LEO got a commendation.

  7. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸👍👍We salute you officer and thank you Job well done above and beyond.👍👍🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

  8. This is what we have cops for 🙏🙏 I know what it’s like to lose someone to suicide. The media shows people bad not the good! This is a good thing that police are for! When people try to commit I try to help them and I tell them it’s not a bad life it’s a bad day. And they understand! Thank you for your service and if it weren’t for you that day we would’ve lost a fine soul! God wasn’t ready to take him so that’s why he had you go and help him! Thank you for your service and doing the good that we need in this world!

  9. And they want to defund the police? Who will take care of this kind of people who are thinking suicidal thoughts? God Bless our Police Officers!
