Grand Rapids police have released the body camera footage of an officer shooting a dog. It happened early Friday morning in the 1700 block of Kalamazoo Avenue SE. Officers were called to the scene on a report of an aggressive dog chasing people around the area. Police said officers spent 30 minutes trying to capture the dog and to identify and get in contact with its owner. At that point, police say the dog charged at an officer in the street after it charged at a neighbor exiting their house. The officer shot the dog twice as it approached him. Police say the dog is still alive and has been reunited with its owner.

  1. I just love how everyone sides with cops on here 🙄. Not every cop is good. There is no such thing as bad dogs only bad owners. FedEx drivers don't shoot dogs. Because there not sissies like cops that shoot dogs are. They are ways to subdue dogs without killing them. Any good cop should know what they are. Which goes to show you this was not a good cop.

  2. If you raise a dog to be a weapon, he will be treated like a weapon and will be deactivated for public safety if necessary.

  3. Not ALL pit bulls are like this. Don't believe me? Watch a few seasons of Pitbulls and Parolees on animal planet.
There'll always be aggressive pits, just like there'll always be aggressive other dogs. It has nothing to do with the breed.

  4. FUCK. that cry the dog let's out when it's shot killed me.
Don't blame the dog, blame the shitty OWNER. Lots of dogs react out of fear and/or protection. He was probably a guard dog that escaped, maybe. Either way, it's heartbreaking to see animals being hurt.

  5. As someone who owned a pit bull, I want to reiterate the fact that with most any dog, pit bull or otherwise, their behavior is wholly dependent on how they're raised. Myself, I spoiled the crap out of my dog since he was a puppy and he grew up to be nothing more than a big baby.

…Okay, a big baby who didn't know his own strength and whose tail was more akin to a whip, but you get my point. Treat a dog like shit, they'll act like shit; treat them with love and they will act in kind.

  6. I can’t watch these “dog gets shot” videos. I just clicked on this so I could write this comment. I would’ve shot it myself after seeing this one though. Damn thing was coming for him!

  7. Honestly you guys who think it was right are fucking stupid. They have taser, pepper spray, and other stuff instead of almost killing it. And before replying, remember I don’t give a fuck if it was a pitbull. The breed doesn’t matter.

  8. Anyone who thinks he did the right thing by shooting a dog is a stupid idiot. He could have killed it. Just use something else. And I don’t care if it was a pitbull.

  9. I do feel bad for the dog. But I mean, you gotta protect yourself. This is coming from a person who loves animals.

  10. I'm a pitbull owner. I don't blame the dog or the cop. I blame the stupid owner, he should be locked up.

  11. Good owners or not just another fine example of why pit pulls are dangerous dogs and absolutely worthless. I hope it died, that’s the type of dog that will tear you to shreds

  12. It was reunited with its owners??? If you cant be a responsible pet owner you shouldnt have them. Aggressive dogs seriously injury ppl regularly
