Huntsville, Alabama — The Huntsville Police Department (HPD) released body-worn camera footage of the officer-involved fatal shooting of Crystal Ragland. In May 2019, Crystal Ragland was shot by officers after residents say she was pointing a gun at people from inside her apartment. Two weeks ago, a federal judge dismissed the wrongful death suit filed in this case by Ragland’s sister Brandie Robinson. The wrongful death lawsuit was filed in May 2021. It claims that HPD officers used excessive, unconstitutional force during Ragland’s shooting death. A federal court ordered the City of Huntsville to release the body camera footage for this incident following the lawsuit’s dismissal.

  1. 1. Don't point your gun at people while sitting in your apartment. PTSD doesn't make you do that.

    2. Don't tell police to shoot your ass when they roll up on you with guns drawn unless you don't want to be shot.

    3. If you have anything that looks like a gun. Don't reach for it when a police officer has a gun on you. Your going to get shot if you do.

    4. There's no such thing as excessive when officers are using lethal force. The goal is to neutralize the threat with lethal force. That means dead. If the officer mag dumps your sister because she pulled what looks like a gun on an officer. That's not excessive. Excessive would have been reloading, and walking up on her and dumping a second msg while she was already on the ground bleeding out.

Disclosure, this is tragic. This is heartbreaking, to watch in her final moments as she fades away. You could see the regret and that she didn't want to die. Guys please stop by playing games with police officers. Just do what they say. The mental health card isn't worth getting shot over. Get help, and stop putting officers into positions where they have to choose if it's going to be you or them. Trust me, that stuff haunts their dreams and wrecks their families.

  2. first time one of these has happened close to me, i was visiting family and heard the shots from the same apartment complex, had no idea what was going on until i looked outside and saw cops with guns drawn.

  3. Sad. I hope the distraught and kind young veteran hero woman was not hurt in any way and she gets the help and support she needs.

    Let’s us pray 🙏🏽.

The officers seemed very trigger happy and shouldn’t of done a 20 round mag dump to her gut. 😡

  4. "i dont got no weapon"
proceeds to pull out a handgun from her pocket.

the court dismissed the wrongful death lawsuit. i am glad justice is served here.

  5. I know legally these officers are in the clear but this still pisses me off. I swear some people want to shoot their guns. That is the feeling I get when watching this. I know many will disagree with me but did they have to mag dump on her? Both of them? This is a net negative. Things would have been better if police didn't intervene at all. I know many will disagree with me but this is just so sad. A complete loss of life and for what? Thanks for "helping" the situation officers.

  6. This is why replica handguns are important. As tragic as it was, their best purpose is for people who could simply get a real firearm and use it. If I was a cop or anyone else, really, I'd prefer that if my life appeared under threat by way of a firearm that could not fire a single bullet; as opposed to one that can.

  7. It’s sucks so bad this happened and it’s definitely her fault for not listening and calming down. But right when she pulls the gun and the shot. It looks like she pulls it and says “it’s a fake” then she doesn’t even get to finish her sentence. Seems like she pulled it to say it’s fake
