Louisville, Kentucky — The Kentucky State Police Critical Incident Response Team released body camera footage from a fatal police shooting that shows a Louisville Metro Police officer fire his weapon once at a man swinging what appears to be a knife, killing him in the parking lot of a car rental business in the Highlands. The preliminary investigation reveals that NLMPD officers responded to a complaint of a suspicious man armed with a knife at The Altenheim Senior Health Care Community located at 936 Barret Avenue in Louisville on March 18, at around 7.30 am.

Shortly after LMPD arrived they located Riley Stephens in a business parking lot nearby armed with a knife. Officers used loud verbal commands in an attempt to deescalate the situation. Officers then attempted to subdue Stephens using less-lethal methods but were unsuccessful. Stephens refused commands to drop his knife and proceeded to advance toward the officers. Officer Malcolm Miller, 22-year veteran with LMPD, fired his agency-issued service weapon, striking Stephens. Officers attempted life-saving measures, but Stephens was pronounced deceased at the scene. No officers or other members of the community were injured during this incident.

  1. That was confusing. Thought the officers mic wasn't working or something when he didn't call in shots fired, then I noticed the suspect seemed to have already been shot so perhaps it was already call in? And it seems as though they have been running quite a bit so not so much calmness, just out of breath? I don't know, this video was awkward af hahaha nevertheless props to the officers for handling the situation so well.

  2. Plenty of verbal chances, 2 none lethal chances ,1 shot , yay… notice how the officer only shot once threat ended ,did not need too empty the magazine, the officer's were calm and even tried life saving measures A+ professional integrity.
Sad life had too be lost, but these officer's did everything possible with what they had on hand .

  3. Shit looks like a training exercise! Bahaha so calm and collected. A lil too much lol.

  4. Excellently handled. Tried to calmly and safely take this guy into custody, when that didn't work and he became deadly, a single effective shot eliminated the threat. It would be great to have more officers handle things this wonderfully

  5. They did a good job staying calm. But, literally everyone had a less lethal option out in a lethal force scenario. The one officer that tried to deploy his taser had to draw and fire his duty weapon while the suspect with a knife advanced on him. Even the one officer who SAID he had lethal didn't cover the suspect with his duty weapon. Instead, he tried to use OC spray.
Luckily, the suspect wasn't running or even attempting to make himself a smaller target while he walked towards the officers. It worked out well for the officers, but it could have gone way worse had he acted more erratically.

  6. Это была одна из самых спокойных перестрелок, которую я когда-либо видел.

  7. These cops so relaxed, for a moment i thought my phone is on mute, ….. anyways, what was the point of all that… no shirt, no screaming karen, no mass shoooootings, and upon of all that, why is this dude not at work ?

  8. Great shooting officer. Glad your going home safe. You can't fix stupid.

I've killed alot of deer. When they drop like that and start kicking you can almost set your watch to 30 seconds and just wait. No coming back from that.

  9. why they never shoot to the legs on this type of scenario? (im just curious about this, have 0 clue on this matters)
