Vallejo police released body camera footage Friday of the fatal encounter with Willie McCoy, the 21-year-old man who was shot to death by multiple officers on Feb. 9 after he was found unresponsive in a car with a gun in the vehicle.
The 29-minute video — released after multiple Bay Area media outlets, as well as McCoy’s family, requested the public records — includes subtitles and text explaining the officers’ actions as they box in McCoy’s car, draw their weapons and eventually open fire. The car was apparently still in drive as McCoy slept in a Taco Bell drive-thru at 974 Admiral Callaghan Lane.
The video, which includes footage from all six officers involved in the fatal shooting, begins with a narrative of events and then includes two maps of the scene, before cutting to an officer standing just feet from the driver’s side window.
“Gun, gun,†an officers says, immediately pulling out his weapon.
“I’m going to bust that f— window,†the officer says, shining a flashlight into the car.
More officers arrive on scene and begin walking around the vehicle with their guns drawn. Attempts to gain entry are unsuccessful because the car’s doors are locked.
“I’m gonna pull him out and snatch his ass,†the first officer to draw his weapon says.
A caption on the video says McCoy’s gun was loaded with an extended magazine.
About five minutes from when the officer first pulls his gun, McCoy appears to wake up and scratch his chest. Officers began shouting orders to show his hands. McCoy appears to lean forward and officers begin firing numerous shots that leave large holes in the driver’s side window, as well as other holes in the windshield.

I know you want to go home at the end of your shift alive. I'm not sure this was the best solution, especially for the driver. Seriously, when's the last time someone woke you up out of a dead sleep {no pun intended] and you could instantly react to their command. I'm thinking not! IDK, I kinda feel like maybe the man woke up, didn't know what the hell was going on, and then the cops unloaded on him. Maybe I'm reading the situation wrong, but I think this could've went down differently. Well, if the bullets hadn't killed him, the taco bell might've.

Bro, the one thing I will never understand is : you and your cop buddies shot this man around 50 times, in total. Why the fuck do you scream like a mad-man afterwards : let me see your hands. We're not in a fuckin movie, where the "bad guy" won't ever die, after you shoot him 100 times. what if he had the sleep disorder if I had woken up to a gun pointed at me and lights and couldn't see who it was because of the lights I would have be startled to seemed a little out of hand, and then to tell him to show his hands after they had shot how many times, I'm all for police and their safety but some of these as this one, why couldn't they have busted the back door window out first ?

Most of the videos on this channel seem 100% justified but…. This one…. I dunno. They didn't even give him a chance to figure out what was going on. First thing you do when you wake up is reach for your phone and in a car it's usually on your lap…. These guys could have gone about it differently.. not saying I would know what to do but they didn't have to do that …

I hope they all lost there jobs. If they should have woke him up out of his sleep, you can't determine if he was gonna try to hide it,or shoot it. There is no way they could have made that determination. They should have boxed him in and called him on the loud speaker. And evacuated the surrounding people. They all had guns on him ,he was boxed in, they could have gave him a chance to comply. Who was he gonna shoot? If he would have raised his weapon they just could have shot him any way.
