3. the fact that people can't tell if it was justified or not may be because any small movement seems to justify a shooting nowadays. its like what happened with Daniel Shaver he was just lifting up his pants which is something i do without thinking when wearing jogging pants. we used to need to see a gun before a shooting was justified but now we only have to suspect a gun. police made the oath when they joined to put their life on the line maybe we should give them that option instead of training them to fire at everything that moves then putting them in jail like a used towel.

22. How do officers differentiate between a suspect reaching for a gun, and an innocent civilian in the wrong place at the wrong time subconsciously reaching to pull up their pants?

    I know that wasn't the case here, and this in no way a criticism of the police, but rather an honest question. Does training cover these scenarios where someone with zero experience at being the subject of a felony stop/arrest, might make a move completely normal and instinctive to them, but is threatening to the officer?

    The incident that really brings this to mind for me, is the swatting "prank" in the Midwest where that father answered the door in confusion and when he reached for his waistband (presumably to pull up his pants), he was fatally shot. This has to be a nightmare scenario and situation for cops.
