On Thursday, August 1, 2019, at approximately 5:17 p.m., Arlington police officers, the Arlington Fire Department and EMS were dispatched to a welfare check in which the caller reported that a woman was passed out in a grassy area near Cantor Drive and N. Collins Street.
The first officer arrived around 5:20 p.m. along with EMS and fire department personnel, and they were unable to locate the female. The caller contacted the officer and was able to direct emergency personnel to the location where this woman was last seen. As the officer began to approach what appeared to be a woman lying in the grass, he noticed there was also an unrestrained dog. This location was near a fence line containing a heavily wooded area behind a commercial business that includes a sidewalk area. As the officer called out to the woman, Maggie Brooks 30 years old repeatedly concerning her welfare, the dog began to run towards the officer while barking. The officer retreated backwards from the running dog while drawing his duty firearm. The officer discharged his firearm multiple times towards the dog. After the shots were fired, the woman yelled out and it was apparent she was injured shot to the torso.
The woman was transported to a local hospital where she was later pronounced deceased. Preliminary information leads investigators to believe the woman was struck by gunfire from the officer. The officer is assigned to the North District as a patrol officer.

He said they had a small brown dog and “she was real loving to the dog.†The dog “was her soul,†he said.”
The officer, whose name has not been released, is 25 and has been with the department seven years, police said. He started as a detention officer, graduated from the police academy in February and was cleared for field work July 21, police said.
The incident was captured by body-worn camera which will be included in the investigation. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office will release the identity of the deceased once next of kin have been identified. This is an ongoing investigation to determine what happened. The department will release additional details and facts as they become more known.

Not to make light of a tragic situation but any word on the civie owned Bork Bork Nom Nom?
I am pro police but the policeman in video absolutely needs to be charged. Being a police does not mean you can fire shots in that kinds of situation. That is utter disregard for life. Human's and the dog's.

The cop should be charged with negligent homicide. You NEVER fire when innocent people are in the line of fire.
Of course more tragic for the woman, but the use of firearms against dogs has got to go. I can understand if, say, you are raiding a know criminal's home and he deploys large fighting dogs, but in most cases dogs do not pose a lethal threat an therefore should be handled like a human that does not pose a lethal threat.
Bad judgement on the cops part. Make sure of what is beyond your target before you shoot.
Why were the cops called though?
That is tragic. Be ware of your backstop and beyond. I really would not have shot at the dog until it was much closer. there is a good chance the dog would have stopped a few feet away and stood it’s ground barking. I would have rather been bit than to have killed this lady. Now this man has to live with this grave mistake the rest of his life. Legislation is changing and a shooting like this would hole grave consequences for this officer. They can’t defund as much police as they would like to. So the next best thing is to make a career in law enforcement more unattractive.
Nah she would have died from an overdose sooner or later anyway the officer did her a favour, I rule no tragedy in this one.
I can't stress how important it is to have your dog on a leech at all times, this would not have happened if that were the case. I feel for the officer that later quit due to this incident and for the woman that died for no reason.

Officer Ravi Singh was indicted in September 2020. Don't know when the trial is.

What I don't understand is why they never miss while shotting at a human but here he misses shotting at a dog and end up shotting an inocent person, i've seen lots of videos where cops shot at person running farther than what this dog was and hitting there target (a human).

the (3 month) rookie cop quit afterwards. he was indicted on charges of criminally negligent death, up to 2 years in jail and $10,000 fine. could not find sentencing info.
