LVMPD — The Las Vegas Metro Police Department released body cameras, pictures with Assistant Sheriff Christopher Darcy who provided additional details of the Officer Involved Shooting (O.I.S.) which occurred on Sunday, May 10, 2020 at an apartment complex located at 6555 Boulder Hwy.
Police receive report of an “intoxicated†man identified as Jody Daniel Lucas, 42 who would not turn down his music and was pointing a firearm at other residents.
Police send air support who Lucas point a gun multiple time.
After officers arrive on scene Lucas walked out of his apartment and yelled something to the people by the pool while pointing a gun at them, this is when the officer involved occurred.
5 officers total open fired Sgt. Justin Diebold, 36; Sgt. Stephen Trzpis, 40; Brendan Hansen, 33; Daniel Lapolla, 24; and Austin Lea, 26.
then Lucas turned to point his gun at the officers, but dropped it and ran down to the ground floor as Sgt. Stephen Trzpis was arriving at the scene fired three rounds and hit Lucas several times.
Officers performed life-saving measures, including applying two tourniquets. Lucas was taken to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, where Darcy said he remained in critical condition.

A BB gun counts as a deadly weapon? Nice to know. I'm kind of curious why they kept shooting him even after he dropped the 'gun' though. Maybe thats SOP for someone they consider a potential mass shooter, to keep shooting until they drop and surrender, but in hindsight it seems a bit unnecessary.
