The Mesa Police Department released a Critical Incident Community Briefing video from an incident that occurred on December 2nd, 2019. The following information was previously released regarding this incident:

The suspect involved in this incident has been identified as Neil Chiago Jr. DOB 09/03/01.

Neil Jr was holding his father hostage inside their apartment. During the stand-off, officers observed the front door open numerous times, then slam shut. Eventually the father was able to exit the apartment and advised officers his son was loading a shotgun. Officers contacted Neil Jr. via telephone who made numerous threats about shooting the officers. Officers observed Neil through a front window holding a gun, eventually pointing the gun in their direction. That is when the Officer Involved Shooting occurred. A sawed-off shotgun was recovered and secured at the scene.

Two Officers discharged their service weapons when Neil Jr. pointed his shotgun in their direction through the window of the apartment. Neil Jr. succumbed to his injuries on 12/3/19 at approximately 4:00 pm.Please Subscribe!
