SALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake City Police Department released body cam footage of 2 officer and 16, 911 call of a fatal Officer-Involved-Shooting with an armed carjacking suspect.

This investigation started at 5:47 p.m. on Saturday, March 26, 2022 when SLC911 received information about a man attempting to carjack a vehicle near 600 South and Interstate 15 in downtown.

After unsuccessfully carjacking one vehicle, the suspect later identify as Matthew Cieslak successfully carjacked another using a firearm. Officers located the suspect in the stolen vehicle. The officers attempted a traffic stop, but the suspect fled through the city to the area of 220 South Orange Street. At some point, shots were exchanged between the suspect and two officers. The suspect Matthew Cieslak died on scene.

  2. Why doesn't every police vehicle have a rifle with a scope in the trunk, and training in how to use it for distance shooting?

  4. I added a comment to the last video that was rejected likely because the initial video was rejected by YouTube. Matthew Cieslak was a Combat Medic and his Utah Cross is a Utah National Guard medal which would equate to the US Army Soldier's Medal for humanitarian reasons for his actions in Cambodia in 2010 . He served one tour in Iraq and three in Afghanistan. Matt received a brain injury in Afghanistan and he was medically discharged. He was native of Idaho and lived there, but received his care at the VA in Salt Lake City. RIP Matthew and condolences to the family. I am a disabled veteran dismayed that a veteran had to travel to receive care. This is grossly disgusting compared to someone that crosses our nations border and can get care wherever the Feds deposit them. Think about that when you examine what our veterans have done for this nation only to be disrespected by those that ordered them.

  12. officer #2 needs some very serious retraining. runs out into the open immediately and follows that by almost shooting his partner in the back. absolutely unbelievable.

  14. Our government will send $800 million to another country at the drop of a hat while veterans like this are left with a crumbling VA and no real help. Disgusting.

  17. It’s sad but a lot of time these veterans go bat shit crazy from ptsd and start doing stuff that you would think they would never do but it happens.
