The City of Denton Police Department released body cam and a press conference concerning the fatal shooting by the Denton police officer of Darius Tarver 23-year-old college student at around 3 a.m. on Jan 2.
It all began with police received multiple 911 calls from residents saying a man was acting erratically, banging on doors and shattering light fixtures in a hallway with a frying pan.
When police officers met Tarver down the stairs of his apartment building, The Forum at Denton Station, he charged at them holding the meat cleaver and a frying pan, this is when a officer involved shooting occurred and killed him.
Before Thursday, Tarver’s father Kevin had been the only person outside of the department known to have seen portions of the incident on video. He said what he saw did not match up with the police narrative of the incident.
Police Chief Frank Dixon said he did not want to release the video, but did so to avoid civil unrest after weeks of public protests demanding more transparency from the department about what happened to Darius Tarver.

I don't really like this shooting, not that I think it was illegal, but easily avoidable. The left would say these cops were waiting for the opportunity to execute the man.
When the man is down, he has dropped both the pan and the knife. With several officers on scene, why not take him into custody then? Why would you then allow him to get back up, walk several feet back to reacquire his frying pan, and then to try to attack them again…..then you get to grease him? You'd almost think they didn't want to peacefully take him into custody and wanted to allow him to give them a reason to kill him.
This doesn't mean the actual shooting was totally unjustifiable, just that it only got to that point due to their incompetence, or their lack of desire to not shoot the person.

So you mean to tell me these cops don't have enough hand to hand training to defeat someone with a frying pan. In our department we do Krav Maga and im sure i could of taken him down.
Once they kicked the meat cleaver away they could have easily went hands on and detained him, instead they moved back and retreated allowing him to once again get the cleaver
