San Leandro Police Department – The San Leandro Police Department released bodycamera (2) phone footage, 911 call and Critical Incident Debriefing of an officer involved shooting that occurred on April 18, 2020 in San Leandro, California.
On April 18, 2020, about 3:12PM, San Leandro Police Officers responded to Walmart, located at 15555 Hesperian Boulevard, for a report of a man later identified as 33-year-old Steven Demarco Taylor brandishing a baseball bat inside the store. Upon their arrival, officers saw a man standing near the shopping cart storage bay holding a baseball bat. Officers approached the man and gave him commands to put down the bat. The man did not comply with the officers’ commands and instead walked towards the officers while still holding the bat. An officer discharged his taser, which was not effective, and the man continued walking towards the officers. Then, the officer used his service weapon, striking the man once in his upper torso. Seconds later, another officer discharged his taser at the man. Officers called for paramedics and provided first aid until they arrived. Despite life-saving measures, the man died from his injuries at the scene.
On April 20, 2020, the Alameda County Coroner’s Bureau performed an autopsy on Mr. Taylor and the preliminary cause of death was determined to be a single gunshot wound to his chest. Additionally, the Coroner’s Bureau confirmed that Taylor did not sustain any additional gunshot wounds to his head or back.

The cameras so conveniently put to not get any details where the officers shoot, this is wrong and should be investigated and ordered that the cameras are put on the shoulders, yes, 2 cameras for each officer. Also why cut the backpack straps? That's unnecessary property destruction, and should be taken from his pay. Why shoot on the chest? you could shoot him on the thigh or upper arm. The loser was on drugs, so this is the game they want to play, defying authority or WTF? defending the loser with the bat ? really? He had his chances, he decided not to take any of them, so I support this police interaction
That's not good police work right there. That was absolute cold blooded murder.
These officers should be fired and face criminal charges, especially the shooter.
They could've handled that many different ways very effectively and not one of those options required fired a gun to kill the suspect.
This is despicable and the department should undergo a full corruption and policy investigation.

Tough call… …and I feel like cops should not be shooting people holding a bat to begin with. And that American cops should be retrained by British cops, based on countless hours of British police videos and a story told to me by an eyewitness account of a knife wielding hostile over there, in public mind you (no one died or was seriously injured in his arrest).
