Columbus Division of Police Officer-InvolvedShooting 4/12/21
Per Columbus City Code and Division of Police policy, the April 12, 2021, fatal shooting of Miles Jackson will be independently investigated by the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation. In compliance with public records law, the division is releasing all records that are currently available pertaining to this incident, including officer body worn camera footage. To aid the media and public in gaining a clear understanding of the chain of events documented in these public records, we provide the following supporting information, which can be independently and objectively verified by reviewing the public records you are receiving.
On April 12, 2021, at 12:11pm
, Westerville Police notified Columbus Police that WPD had “one of your wanted subjects at St. Ann’s hospital.†The operator identified the subject as Miles M.Jackson, date of birth 12/5/93. She informed Columbus Police that Jackson was found sleeping on a bench outside of a bank, and was taken to the hospital after a suspected relapse related to a drug overdose.
She informed Columbus Police that Jackson has an open domestic violence warrant out of case #21 CRB 2113, with additional warrants for assault, falsification, resisting arrest, drug possession, and weapons under disability
(Note: weapons under disability is a criminal charge meaning a person possessed a firearm when they had been legally prohibited from doing so by a court of law. In Jackson’s case, this was based on a prior felony conviction.)
Into the video, Officers Krichbaum and Howe are seen preparing Jackson for transport to the Franklin County jail.

into video, Jackson’s gun is fired. The bullet visibly exits the left pocket of his sweatpants. Officer Krichbaum is seen struggling to disarm Jackson. Officer Howe is seen firing his weapon. Officer Howe’s weapon malfunctions as Officer Krichbaum continues to struggle with Jackson.
Over the next nearly five minutes of video
, at least four officers and security personnel can be heard
no less than 85 times ordering Jackson tod rop the gun and put his hands up.
A taser is deployed, followed by one gunshot, then a series of gunshots.
Jackson was killed in the shooting.
No other injuries were reported.

Shame on WPD for not searching his person. They should be held accountable for endangering the lives of fellow Leo, paramedics, hospital staff and patients. This could have been avoided had they done their job!
Here's my only issue with this…..There should be 1 person assigned to interact with the suspect and giving commands, not everyone on scene all at one time. I also believe there should only be 1 officer assigned to use deadly force and a backup officer assigned in case of a gun jamming, or inability to subdue the suspect. All of them shooting and putting 20 bullets in someone, is too much. That's just my unpopular opinion. I still back and respect our men and women Leo's 100%.

Im wondering if that M&P was the 1.0 or the 2.0 . Also in review it apears he didn't have a positive grip upon discharge, and the loose right hand thumb probably depressed the magazine release. Interesting malfunction to say the least. This is the malfunction that Glock is attempting to alleviate with the cut out at the magazine well of the grip. I have been an anti cut-out user. This will most likely change my stance.
