Henderson, Nevada — The Henderson Police Department released Body Worn Camera Footage regarding the officer-involved shooting that took place on December 10th, 2019.

On December 10th, at approximately 6:30a.m., the Henderson Police Department responded to the 600 block of S. Boulder Highway in reference to a disturbance involving a male subject pounding on the business door.

Arriving officers located a 40-year-old male matching the description of the subject, later identified as Israel Valle-Lopez, in the parking lot in front of the entrance. Officers issued Lopez verbal commands, which were ignored. Lopez continued aggressing officers and produced a knife after being pushed to the ground. As officers attempted to take him into custody, he attempted to stab one of the officers, resulting in the use of deadly force.

Lopez was transported to a local hospital in stable condition.

No officers were injured during this incident.

As this is an open investigation, no further details will be released at this time.

This is the sixth officer-involved shooting in 2019.

  4. My question is whether the officer who moved in to apprehend did so too soon. Had he not closed to melee distance, all officers would have had more discretionary space and time to try to de-escalate. I have to say it is justified because the perp clearly took a stab at the apprehending officer. Possibly avoidable, though.

  15. If he were to go straight at the police officers with the knife then it would be justified, who knows how much he drank and whether he was aware of what he was doing. He also wanted to avoid the police officers. The police officer stood in front of him and thus put himself and the victim in danger. Just because some police officers weren't careful during their training. The weapon should always be the last resort, that's what makes a good police officer.
