APD Interim Chief of Police Allen Banks City of Albuquerque Police Department

Albuquerque Police Department Interim Chief Allen Banks was born and raised in Albuquerque and has been with APD for 21 years. Banks says he’s looking forward to leading the department he’s been part of for more than two decades.

“I’ve been a deputy chief now for 3.5 years, working with chief Schultz, working with this administration. I’ve been in this department for 21 years and I know the ins and outs of this department,” Banks said.

Deputy Chief Allen Banks was sworn in Saturday August 3, 2013 as the city of Albuquerque Interim Police Chief by City of Albuquerque Mayor Richard Berry.

His family helped Saturday with the pinning of his stars. He becomes the city’s first African-American Police Chief.

Berry named Banks as a temporary replacement saying Banks was the right man for the job.

“Over the past several years, law enforcement has faced numerous challenges,” Banks said Saturday. “The demands on the profession have increased and the expectations have risen. As we move forward, the sworn and civilian personal will continue to work hard to represent and support his city.”
