All individuals arrested in California are booked into custody. During this process the police collect various information about the individual. Some of this information is required by law to be released to the public. Some agencies comply with the law, some don’t.

Notwithstanding any other provision of this subdivision, state and local law enforcement agencies shall make public the following information, except to the extent that disclosure of a particular item of information would endanger the safety of a person involved in an investigation or would endanger the successful completion of the investigation or a related investigation:(1) The full name and occupation of every individual arrested by the agency, the individual’s physical description including date of birth, color of eyes and hair, sex, height and weight, the time and date of arrest, the time and date of booking, the location of the arrest, the factual circumstances surrounding the arrest, the amount of bail set, the time and manner of release or the location where the individual is currently being held, and all charges the individual is being held upon, including any outstanding warrants from other jurisdictions and parole or probation holds.

  2. So what ever happened did you follow up ? Try going back with a copy of the law and maybe a quick video of how other departments do this request try going when other higher commanders are around . That cop stands out as a dirty cop you can just tell . He doesn’t know his job because if he did he would have released the record according to the law . Another tough guy cop

  3. You could’ve just told him that in comparison to the other departments his department is incredibly disorganized and quite possibly out of regulations.

  4. When people ask me why I don't trust law enforcement … I have many reasons, one of them being they don't know the law and even when they know it, they choose not to follow it … apparently, with impunity. Many thanks for posting this and all your other videos. Cheers.

  6. So what recourse does the public have when the police violate the law like this? Costly lawsuits are not practical in every situation so what should we do?

  7. He should save the apology for AFTER he is reprimanded and demoted for failure to comply with the law. "I'm not going to do that" is his defense to disobeying the law.
