Each helicopter in the Air Rescue 5 program has a flight crew of two deputy sheriff pilots, a sergeant crew chief and two Emergency Service Detail deputy paramedics. The team is deployed on search and rescue and over-water operations, and can rapidly deploy Tactical Response Forces during major incidents. They also provide an emergency rescue service to other counties.

As mentioned above, the program is responsible for many live-saving tasks, but the most frequent of these is the search and rescue operations. In coordination with Montrose Search & Rescue, the program will dispatch a helicopter for both search and rescue operations in the Angeles National Forest.

Air Rescue 5 conducted search & rescue missions looking for survivors after Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans, Louisiana in 2005.
Three Eurocopter AS 332L1 Super Puma helicopters serve as part of the sheriff’s department’s Aero Bureau.

  5. I saw the screenshot on the right side and knew it had to be your video based on the clarity. I sat here as I clicked it thinking I remember Katman telling me about that video as it happened. But then I thought wait a minute…I don't think Katman and I even discussed this rescue. I listened to it on the radio and probably imagined myself being there recording it myself. The radio traffic was pretty interesting at the time. I wish you would have used some of it for the rest of the world that didn't get a chance to listen in. Anyways I have mentioned elsewhere that it is nice to know many times you are out recording on the opposite side of town. Add to that the possibility LauraShark might also be out there recording too. It seems like a long shot in a way but at the same time it is a real fact and likely happens often enough without any of us being aware of it. Anyway good video and good morning.
