Inside El Salvador’s brutal prisons, a remarkable transformation is underway as the government embarks on a mission to convert members of the country’s most violent gangs to Christianity. These inmates, serving time for heinous crimes, now find themselves grappling with religious fulfillment and regret.

Exploring the complex dynamics of faith within these penitentiaries, this video sheds light on the accounts of those who have embraced Christianity behind bars. Despite being unable to leave prison, many prisoners seek solace in God, engaging in Bible studies and spiritual reflection. However, it remains a challenge to discern who is genuinely seeking redemption and who is merely adopting religion as a survival tactic.

Adding to the complexity is the segregation of homosexual inmates to solitary confinement. These individuals often face isolation, confined away from the mainstream religious groups, reflecting the harsh structures of life in El Salvadorian prisons.

This documentary was produced by Ligne de Front and directed by Vincent Prado. It was first released in 2021.

  1. As someone who grew up in a religious household I can tell you while some religious principles are of merit, religion does not make better people. I’ve seen it first hand. Sometimes it comes with a pig headed ignorance that completely disregards those who are not of the same belief set as you. This is especially prevalent in Christianity and Islam. I’m not against some principle for example ‘treating others as you’d like to be treated’. I’d like rather than frenzied preaching though a heavier focus on meditation and yoga. Just my opinion on the matter anyway

  2. The best justice and penitentiary system for ones who is working on reducing crime and reoffending crime

Inmates should return to society with no links to crime, they shouldn't have some needs of them

  3. South korea also need to this system. There is a lot gang members these days. Absolutely respect to Bukele and el salvador people. From 🇰🇷 🇰🇷 🇰🇷
