Every year in India, at least a thousand young people are murdered by their own families for falling in love with the wrong person. For these lovers, who shun arranged marriages for love matches, there is only one resource to which they can turn: the love commandos.

This volunteer organisation is run out of a small room in a congested inner-city Delhi neighbourhood. They have no budget or formal structure – just a stong desire to modernise their country and end the honour killings.

Sapna is 23 and in love with Mazhar, a Muslim student. When her father, a rich Hindu, found out, decided she needed to be punished. She has been beaten, kidnapped, forcibly married and set on fire. Dozens of times, she’s nearly died. She’s lived in the Love Commandos refuge in Delhi for the past four months. It’s too risky for her to leave the shelter but she says she feels happy for the first time and is waiting for her marriage to be dissolve so that she can marry Mazhar.

Bhaskar and Pooja and Kartik and Ashia are also on the run from their families. We follow these three couples over several months and tell their stories. A surprising look at modern India.

This documentary was produced by Babel Press and directed by Stéphanie LEBRUN & Mélanie Gallard. It was first released in 2013.

  1. Honour is literally peer pressure and what other ppl think about u

The only reason it becomes important is the family can lose work and other opportunities

If ppl would stop giving consequences to families that have been dishonoured then there would be no logical reason to give a shit about what ur neighbours think

In a big city it’s easier to blend in
But in a village or small town everyone knows ur business so it’s harder to hide shit

  2. Ohhhh well why i haven't seen any honor killing 😕 in my locality, i need to have a serach operation in my country india ( yes it's important because here they says it's a big issue 😢)

  3. 😢😢😢AFTER WATCHING THIS , I REALLY FEEL SORRY FOR MUSLIM GIRLS MARRYING HINDUS WHO LIVE GUZZLING COW AND RAT URINE. I AM 101% CONVINCED THAT JINNAH FROM PAKISTAN WAS CORRECT IN PARTITION . BUT THE MUSLIMS OF INDIA DECIDED TO STAY IN INDIA AND NOW SUFFERING LIKE THIS AND BEEF LYNCHING😂😂😂

  4. Stop liberal hypocrisy and stop making films without truly understanding the social problem of India. Most of the time Hindu girls marry Muslims boy successfully and is forced to convert to Islam but the opposite is next to impossible. Muslims kill both the boy and the girl invariably in name of honor.

  5. I don't agree with hindu and muslim though. I would never get with anyone if he aint going to revert and become muslim. Because in islam it's not permissible for the muslim women to marry someone if he ain't muslim he has to revert and become a muslim. But I don't agree on parents killing their daughters because that's not permissible in islam it's a sin so I also don't agree with this it's sad but if the guys that are hindu want to really marry the muslim woman they should revert because she's sinning then

  6. Alhumdulillah for Islam. Our religion teaches us equality and is strict and thank God it is strict against discrimination like these. Alhumdulillah my ancestors accepted Islam and I am born a Muslim

  7. Honestly, I wouldn’t have a problem with honor killings if they actually did it properly and killed the correct person, and not the victim.

  8. God never meant for a marriage to be forced upon anyone. He answers prayer and gives a person the spouse He sees fit!
I come from a family who all of us asked God for the spouse and HE literally guided us to each other even from a far away city ! Thank You Jesus Christ we have a good life!!!
I pray for these couples. be strong and move forward with each other, bring a positive change to India!

  9. These counterproductive ways of thinking, only really serve to keep people in their place. Of course, with those with money and power have never followed these rules. They serve to hold those below them in subservience. Breaking such customs is a virtue…These families are slaves of system that doesn't serve them. And if the gods who they pray to were so powerfully in favour of such customs, why would they need weaklings like them to enforce them? It is an evil custom whatever the context.

  10. That trash father…instead of trying to punish those who attempted to burn his daughter, he effectively takes their side and absolves them. What a dickhead!

Dishonour upon her family? Her family is behaving like a F**king disgrace!

  11. And these people have the nerve to hate blacks, most asians….when they rather kill they own damn children just so people wont shun them. Or disown them. Thats not LOVE FOR YOUR CHILDREN…THATS CONTROL. LOVE IS ACCEPTING. AND HOW CAN WE ALL SERVE ONE GOD WITH DIFFERENT BELIEFS? THE MOST HIGH MADE US ALL.

  12. In india love marriage killing and arrange marriage killed by their inlaw s are honored. I don't know why? In this video the husband tried to burn her by pouring kerosene and her father was okay with that and her husband was a drunkards who could have killed her the second time. What kind of father says that if he have to burn her he would have done in the first attempt . This is so disturbing 😢

  13. At 28.52mn, when he says ''in India we wannt go anywhere without being married" how does this apply to the day to day life ? Do you have to prove your status to a random policeman in the streets for example ? Would people in restaurants ask for a proof of you being married?
    Thanks for your answer

  14. There is no sin in the hearts of ANY 2 people in love. We have no control over who our heart lloves. There is sin in the lust of mens loins as in rape, child molesting, child sex trafficking, girl genital mutilations, pornography etc etc There is no heart in any of these for the female in a mans world.

  15. India needs to check the Calendar and Stop Allowing Honour Killings to go unpunished and parents must stop with arranging marriages and instead get their children properly educated and love them and support them and they should understand that their choices are their responsibility and they must be willing to pay the price for their decisions but that should never include being murdered because of who they love and married . The most serious outcome for a couple of marries against their parents wishes should simply be getting disowned by their families but never murdered. Laws in India must be changed and enforced across the board on murder and rape and physical abuse it should never be allowed or tolerated. Love is the best solution and forgiveness. Jesus Loves You All he can give you guidance ❤

  16. Western christian media only shows negative documentaries about india. The find it important to mention india. When it comes to the many indian yoga sciences that are practised in the west, then this same media does not mention india. Hypocrytical media.
