Tire Theft Suspect Crashes into Officers Then Tries to Swim Away

Southfield, Michigan — On July 1, 2025, around 3 a.m., a resident’s 911 call tipped off authorities to suspicious activity involving two men removing tires from a Ford F-150. The suspects fled in a rented Chrysler Pacifica, a vehicle choice police say is favored by thieves for its capacity to discreetly haul stolen car parts. Southfield Police Officers soon spotted the van and initiated a pursuit that included reckless driving through yards and a dangerous maneuver against traffic that ended with the van smashing into a marked police cruiser, injuring two officers.

Undeterred by the crash, the suspect, 31-year-old Trachawn McCaa, bolted from the wreckage and dove into a nearby pond in a desperate bid to avoid arrest, only to be met by more officers on the opposite shore. The suspect jumped back in, attempting to swim away, but ultimately surrendered. McCaa and his accomplice, 51-year-old Prince Madison, who was discovered hiding in the rear of the vehicle, were both arrested. Authorities say both men have extensive felony records and now face charges of larceny from a motor vehicle, with McCaa also charged with third-degree fleeing and eluding. With bail set at $50,000 and $5,000, respectively, both men will be required to wear a GPS tether while out on bond.

    Make a law that says every state must prosecute fleeing and battery on LEO charges without written approval by the AG for EACH CASE. Make a law saying each state must have a min 5 and 10 year sentence, no parole for both. Make a fed law that says if you run, you cannot have bond, ever. You proved you like to run.

    Any one of us, with full air bag deployment, would have roled over and cried about our aches and pains. These officers jumped out and performed at the highest level. Amazing, super hero-like performance from these two. Bravo.
