Rock Island, Illinois — On January 5, 2025, at approximately 3:15 p.m., Rock Island Police Department Officer Brett Taylor was conducting patrol in a fully marked squad vehicle in the area of 12th Street and 34th Avenue in Rock Island, Illinois. Officer Taylor noticed a maroon 2013 Ford Fusion traveling northbound towards his squad car and then immediately turn left into an alley. He noted the windows were heavily tinted, but believed he saw two male subjects in the front seat. Officer Taylor ran the license plates on the vehicle, which was registered to both 21-year-old Jakarta Jackson and a female. Numerous alerts came back from the vehicle, including a weapons caution and recent involvement in a “fled vehicle” report. There was also an active warrant for Jackson out of Rock Island County. Officer Taylor located the parked vehicle in the driveway of 2403-12th Street, later determined to be a vacant home. Officer Taylor was parking his squad behind the vehicle when he saw Jackson, walking away. He initiated his flashing lights for a traffic stop, and exited the squad yelling verbal commands for Jackson to stop.

Jackson did not stop and began running around the exterior of the residence. Officer Taylor ran after him and gave verbal commands to stop and warnings that he would shoot, although he did not have his weapon drawn. Jackson returned to the Ford, which was still running, while two adults, a male and female are outside of the vehicle. At this point, Officer Taylor was the only officer on scene, and when Jackson gets back into the driver’s seat he closes the door, with the car running. Officer Taylor reached the car and is seen taking his baton and breaking the driver’s side window while yelling for Jackson to stop the car. When Officer Taylor is able to open the door he tries to pull Jackson out of the vehicle, and the front passenger is seen pushing the gear shift into park, but Jackson pulls it back into drive. While Officer Taylor is struggling with Jackson, Jackson drives forward, goes into reverse, and then drives forward again. Officer Taylor appears to be hanging onto Jackson, and onto the car door as Jackson is driving forward down the side of the yard, on the hill, and strikes a street sign before spinning and stopping at the bottom of 12th Street.

Officer Taylor appears to fall backwards when the car hits the street sign and is then seen with his weapon, discharging it 5 times, hitting Jackson in the glute and lower torso. Officer Taylor then moves Jackson out of the vehicle, while another officer arrives to assist, and CPR and other life-saving measures are administered to Jackson. The investigation later revealed that there were six individuals in the Ford Fusion at the time Officer Taylor initiated the traffic stop: Jackson and another adult male in the front passenger seat, two adults, 1 male and 1 female, in the backseat, along with two minor children, a 3 year-old and a 6 year-old. The backseat of the vehicle did not have child safety restraints or seating. No other passengers were physically injured during this incident. There were no weapons discovered on Jackson or inside the Ford Fusion. Officer Taylor was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, and was released later in the evening of January 5th. Jackson did not survive his injuries. Two of the adult passengers were also at the top of the hill and observed the car driving forward with Officer Taylor attached to the driver’s side door.

  2. “Why you do dat?!” You mean the thing he told him he was going to do if he continued to put his life at risk as he continued to put his life at risk? Idk man. That might be one of the world’s greatest mysteries.

  3. If this ain’t the saddest shit I’ve seen ….Ppl, who gives a fuck about race, and the choices ppl make by they’re selves… if it don’t effect our lives… Ya ppl arguing over dumb shit granted his comment was stupid and didn’t belong here … It don’t matter if you feel like this person deserved this or not you can keep that opinion to yourself brother.. at the end of the day a young man got shot not thinking clearly in the moment we all have those moments at least one time it might not resulted in this but we have them ….

  4. Dang, I love that the US police are trained to grab onto moving vehicles 😬 just checked it out and they aren't, actually it's pretty hard finding anything about US police training. Can anyone in the US talk on that? Would be great to make a youtube video on it

  5. Instead, the police cowered in the hallways listening to the gunshots go off in the classroom as he executed the children one by one for 1 hour and 14 minutes. Not to mention, the school shooter entered a classroom and execute his victims after walking by local and state officers who had been in the hallways. The police ran away after seeing the shooter enter the school armed with an AR15 instead of engaging and taking him out before he could execute any children. Only after the shooter ran out of bullets and 74 minutes later did members of the US Border Patrol Tactical Unit breach the classroom and take out the shooter. The police officers never entered the classroom. Instead, the police taped off the school grounds while violently preventing parents and other civilians from going into the school to rescue the children. I guess the police are only brave when it comes to executing unarmed black people.

  6. Most people especially who are black like this dude are literally just becoming allergic or its disorder of not listening or by giving commands with the police officer who are politefully giving a suspect to cooperate by refusing to listen and chose to rather die instead which it is sad to hear:(. WHY PEOPLE JUST WHY!?.🤬🤦🏻🤦🏻😞

  7. Sounds to me like the white cop was going to shoot someone whether his life was in danger or not. He started yelling he was going to shoot him from the jump for running.

  8. Correct me if im wrong but don't the dash cam come on when the lights are activated…that being said seems he didnt light him up till after he parked and got out Humm thats kinda odd aint it why wait till he parks and gets out to hit ur lights …seems like the cop was mad that he avoided him that kid knew he was coming for him and he parked n got out way before the cop was on him …cop wanted to be sneaky but didnt quite workout like that

  9. I don’t get it, if I have a CHILD, and even just a female with me idc what my charges are or what I’m about to be arrested for, I WILL NOT, do anything to put them in danger, this little boy is no where near a man

  10. I bet the family is trying to sue the police department after this, like always lol when all he had to do was comply… like how don’t people know this by now? If you take off with a cop in your car, you’re getting shot!

  11. stupifo…. officer. Just let it go and catch latter, but he started fire near kids plus he was way to agresive. Such officers should sit in jail with criminals or get help somewhere where they cant harm.
