Humboldt Park, Chicago — On March 9, 2026, Illinois State Police investigated a shooting on the Eisenhower Expressway involving a white Mercedes that authorities later linked to 42-year-old Derek Jordan. Although no one was injured in that expressway shooting, Chicago Police began searching for the vehicle after receiving information connecting it to the case. Several hours later, officers located the Mercedes in the Humboldt Park neighborhood and attempted what they described as an investigatory stop near North Homan Avenue. According to police and body camera footage later released by COPA, Jordan refused to stop and drove away, triggering a short pursuit through the area. During the chase, authorities said the Mercedes struck a pedestrian and eventually became trapped in an alley after crashing near a CTA bus and other vehicles. Officers quickly surrounded the car and repeatedly ordered Jordan to get out. Instead, investigators say he continued trying to move the vehicle by ramming the bus and an unmarked police vehicle, as officers stood close to the car. Seconds later, an officer fired several shots through the passenger-side window, striking Jordan multiple times. Witnesses at the scene can be heard pleading with officers not to shoot as Jordan remained trapped between surrounding vehicles. Police later said a firearm was recovered from inside the Mercedes, though officials have not stated whether Jordan ever pointed or fired the weapon. Jordan was transported to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The Civilian Office of Police Accountability continues to investigate the shooting, while attorneys representing Jordan’s family argue officers escalated the encounter unnecessarily and failed to use de-escalation tactics before deadly force was used.

  2. Regardless of everything else, Ofc. #1 needs to calm down. Uncontrollable screaming at the suspect, other officers, on the radio, and screaming "I'm gonna kill you" is just not a good policing. Being THAT amped-up leads to unnecessary escalation. Justified or not, Ofc. #1 was way too reactionary, and was out of control (last person on scene to holster up). Compare his behavior to over a dozen other officers on scene.

  3. Right or wrong the cop who opened fire is way to hyped up to be allowed in situations like this. Saying your going shot is one thing but yelling I'll murder you is anther his gun control was trash running up with officer's in front of him finger on the trigger he definitely needs more gun control training. He doesn't have the proper mentality to be officer i believe. And I'm all for the police an rights to bear arm's. It's not adrenaline he's a bad apple.

  4. Dude was on a mission. This was 💯 justified. PERIOD. The family, though I feel for them, needs to accept the fact their family member was a clown and made the choice to use his vehicle as a weapon
