  1. Anyone notice a problem with that officer's rifle? I'll give you a hint: HIS REAR SIGHT WAS STILL FOLDED DOWN.

My dude, you're not shooting clays with pappy's shotgun. If adrenaline causes you to forget to deploy your rear sight, you need to put a fking red dot on your rifle so you don't have to worry about it.

  2. State with so much GDP it's ranked among world economies. But can't afford better dash cams or body cams for its police force. But hey, at least they can clean up San Fran and hide all the homeless for a week when the ruler of China visits.

  3. 1. 2006 Stabbing Case (Los Angeles County) → 2008 Conviction

    Incident date: December 1, 2006
Location: Sierra Madre’s Memorial Park (Pasadena area)
Charges filed (2007): Attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon (he and two co-defendants — Richfield “Richie” Jia Chang and Ryan Richard Swender — were accused of stabbing a 17-year-old boy during an argument).
Outcome: Attempted murder charges were dismissed. Convicted of assault with a deadly weapon (Penal Code § 245(a)(1)), which qualified as a serious “strike” offense under California’s Three Strikes law and involved infliction of great bodily injury.
Sentencing: April 18, 2008 — sentenced to 7 years in state prison.
Relevance to later case: This felony conviction made Chang a prohibited person from possessing firearms or ammunition, which formed the basis for felon-in-possession charges in 2021.

This is the only prior felony conviction referenced in all court filings and news reports about the 2021 case.
    2. 2021 Police Ambush / Shooting Spree (Tulare County) → 2024 Conviction & Sentencing

    Incident date: February 19, 2021
Location: Started in Three Rivers (near Sequoia National Park), ended in an orange grove near Woodlake.
Summary: Brandished a semi-automatic handgun at tourists (pointed it at a woman in a car at a gas station and slashed a tire in a Sequoia National Park parking lot), led officers on a high-speed chase, then ambushed responding California Highway Patrol and sheriff’s deputies by firing at them from cover. He was wounded in the exchange. Also possessed hallucinogenic mushrooms.
State charges (Tulare County Superior Court): Multiple counts including attempted murder of peace officers, assault with a firearm, felony evading, etc.
Federal charges (filed 2021, U.S. District Court, Eastern District of California): Assault with a dangerous weapon, brandishing a firearm during a crime of violence, felon in possession of ammunition, and vandalism. (These appear to have been handled alongside or superseded by the state prosecution; no separate federal conviction/sentencing is prominently reported.)
Conviction (July 22/24, 2024 jury trial):
5 counts of premeditated and deliberate attempted murder (of peace officers)
Assault with a semi-automatic firearm on peace officers
Felon in possession of firearms, ammunition, and a ballistic vest
    Felony evading
Multiple special allegations (including personally discharging a firearm)

Sentencing (August 16, 2024): 208 years to life in state prison. The 2008 prior strike significantly enhanced the sentence.
