  1. Mom: "This is not normal behavior." Oh. Ok. Let me just let him out of the police car then. Are you insane? Of course he has to go to jail. You are not going to argue how sane he is on the side of the road after he just commited multiple crimes.

  2. I deal with people like this in my job. I will say one big mistake officers made was shouting at him. That's just going to make him freak out more. A better way to approach is to act casual, friendly almost. "Hey man, you ok? We got some calls. You're nathan, right? You need some help?"

Guys like that will usually engage with that approach. Heck, I once used it to get a guy to hand over a big stick he was dangerously swinging around. "Hey man, how'sit going. That's a cool stick! Where'd youf ind it? Mind if I take a look at it?" And he handed it over easy and then was escorted out without incident.

It won't always work, but that kind of deescalation can be very effective. I get that shouting commands is routine, but sometimes you catch more flies with honey, you know?

  3. I feel so bad cause ik what Hes going through years of drug induced psychosis couple with some very severe schizophrenia
I mean your experiencing true terror as you believe everyone is out to truly get you to kill you do harm and when the few people you feel liek you can always trust like your mom have to side with these “attackers” cause thats what they are to him he cannot comprehend they are real cops he can’t
Hell have a reduced sentenced and probation a do most liekly will get treatment not jail time or at least youd hope as he needs true help
